Patent number: 6064572Abstract: A thermosyphon-powered jet-impingement cooling device delivering superior thermal energy dissipation for compact heat sources such as electronic devices. Thermal energy from a heat source travels through the heat source/heat spreader plate interface to the heat spreader plate and heat spreader plate extended surface. Thermal energy is transferred by convection to a single or two-phase coolant media. The heated and/or boiling, less dense coolant begins to expand and rise. The rising coolant or vapor approaches a cold plate and velocity slows due to the greater cross-sectional flow area. The coolant heat energy is released by convection or condensation to the heat dissipation/fluid interface surface, and is then conducted through the cold plate, across the cold plate/heat dissipating device thermal interface, and then to the heat dissipating device. As the cooled media contracts and/or condenses to form droplets, the coolant or droplets begin to fall.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1999Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Inventor: Ralph Remsburg

Patent number: 6043869Abstract: A device for measuring the speed of an object. The device includes a spatial filter scheme to provide quick-response photodetectors and an efficient use of light. The device projects light onto the object by a light source 1, and the light reflected by the object is received by a lens. This light passes through aperture stop 4 and strikes prism array 7, where it is split alternately into two paths at a fixed pitch with respect to the optical axis. The two split beams are received respectively by two photodetectors. The speed of the object moving relative to the measuring device can be calculated based on the data collected by photodetectors.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1996Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: OMRON CorporationInventors: Tetuya Uno, Junichi Takagi, Yasunobu Sakai

Patent number: 6037144Abstract: A collagen containing substrate comprising cattle basal membrane is conditioned by incubating the membranes in a mixture of pepsin, hyaluronidase and acetic acid and separating the collagen from the mixture. The mixture can include pepsin, hyaluronidase and a 0.5M solution of acetic acid in 1:1:10 proportions. The incubation is conducted for about 10 hours at about 45.degree. C. After incubation, collagen is separated from the mixture by centrifuging at a speed of 5000 to 30000 rpms for about 30 minutes. The collagen is mixed with polymerizable monomer and polymerized to form a gel that can be ground to form an intraocular or contact lens.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Staar Surgical AGInventors: Svyatoslav Nikolayevich Fedorov, Sergei Nikolayevich Bagrov, Yevgeny Viktorovich Larionov, Vladimir Borisovich Malyshev

Patent number: 6027041Abstract: A spray bottle has a ball swivel joint enabling angular orientation of the spray head with respect to the bottle. Both liquid and air are conducted between the pump and the bottle in separate passageways in the swivel joint, thus enabling use of a conventional pump. These passageways may be spaced apart or substantially concentric. A highly flexible pickup hose has a weight at its distal or pickup end, so that the distal and remains immersed in liquid, even when the spray bottle is inverted. In alternative embodiments, the pickup hose is bendable, rather than highly flexible. Tightening a cap adjusts tension on the swivel joint, thus varying pressure required to adjust spray head angularity or to immobilize the spray head at a desired angularity. The swivel joint may include one or more ball members.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1992Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Evnx Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Robert M. Evans
