Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for purifying an aqueous solution of fermentation alcohol to give anhydrous alcohol, wherein a mash column is controlled such a manner that an alcohol concentration of an alcohol/water mixed vapor distilled from a mash column is less than 50% by weight and a reflux amount of a condensate to a distillation column is controlled such a manner that an alcohol concentration of an alcohol/water mixed vapor that is distilled from the distillation column is 55 to 85% by weight. According to the present method, the purification for obtaining an anhydrous alcohol from an aqueous solution of a fermentation alcohol with the use of a mash column, a pressurized distillation column and a membrane separator can be more conveniently carried out with an extremely high energy efficiency as the whole process.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an immunological method and, more particularly, a method for measuring cell-mediated immune reactivity (CMI) in mammals based on the production of IP-10. The invention further discloses an assay and a kit for measuring CMI to an antigen using whole blood or other suitable biological samples. The methods of the present invention are useful in therapeutic and diagnostic protocols for human, livestock and veterinary and wild life applications, thus the invention further relates to a method for diagnosing an infection in a mammal.
Abstract: This invention concerns a process for producing integrated circuits containing at least one layer of elemental metal which during the processing of the integrated circuit is at least partly in the form of metal oxide, and the use of an organic compound containing certain functional groups for the reduction of a metal oxide layer formed during the production of an integrated circuit. According to the present process the metal oxide layer is at least partly reduced to elemental metal with a reducing agent selected from organic compounds containing one or more of the following functional groups: alcohol (—OH), aldehyde (—CHO), and carboxylic acid (—COOH).
Abstract: A cardiac monitoring and defibrillation system is provided which may be embodied as a bedside unit or as an ambulatory unit. The system includes amplification and processing circuitry which receives and conditions inputs from a variety of sensing means such as an electrocardiogram, a blood oxygenation sensor, a blood pressure monitor, and a cardiac acoustical transducer. A noise and artifact discrimination procedure is employed to prevent erroneous detection of the onset of cardiac arrhythmias. In response to the conditioned inputs from the monitoring means, the microprocessor controls therapeutic electrical stimulus which may be delivered to a patient in accordance with a cardioverter/defibrillator step therapy method. The microprocessor may be operated or programmed by means of a control panel or an external programming and monitoring unit.
