Abstract: The present invention provides a device and method for removing non-discriminatory indices of an indexed dataset using ensemble statistics analysis. The device may include a data removal module (320) for removing non-discriminatory indices. For example, the data removal module (320) may comprise a common characteristic removal module and/or a noise removal module. In addition, the data analyzer (300) may comprise a normalization means (310) for normalizing the indexed data. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of identifying and removing portions of the set of data having insufficient discriminatory power based on ensemble statistics of the set of indexed data. For example, the method may include the steps of identifying and removing common characteristics and/or noise portions of the set of indexed data. In addition, the method may comprise the step of normalizing the indexed data either prior to or after the step of removing portions of the set of data.

  • Patent number: 7980413
Abstract: An improved metallic can has an integral base that defines a standing ring that is more resistant to buckling than conventional designs. It includes a vertically oriented cylindrical sidewall and a unitary end wall having a recessed central portion and a downwardly flanged rim portion that defines the standing ring. The downwardly flanged rim portion preferably includes a first outer convexly curved annular surface that when viewed in vertical cross-section has a first radius of curvature R1, a second, lower convexly curved annular surface that when viewed in vertical cross-section has a second radius of curvature R2, and a third, inner convexly curved annular surface that when viewed in vertical cross-section has a third radius of curvature R3. Advantageously, the first, second and third radii of curvature R1, R2 and R3 are each different from each other.

  • Patent number: 7976819
Abstract: An economic, direct synthetic method for producing water soluble QDs that are ready for bioconjugation is provided. The method can produce aqueous QDs with emission wavelengths varying from 400 nm to 700 nm. Highly luminescent metal sulfide (MS) QDs are produced via an aqueous synthesis route. MS QDs are capped with thiol-containing charged molecules in a single step. The resultant MS QDs exhibit the distinctive excitonic photoluminescence desired of QDs and can be fabricated to avoid undesirable broadband emissions at higher wavelengths. This provides a significant improvement over the present complex and expensive commercial processes for the production of QDs. The aqueous QDs are stable in biological fluids over a long period of time. In addition, nontoxic ZnS QDs have been produced with good photoluminescence properties by refluxing the ZnS QD suspensions over a period of time.
