  • Patent number: 8159803
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting an overheating condition at an electrical power device and automatically breaking the circuit when the temperature exceeds a setpoint value. In various configurations the device is a receptacle adapted to be used in a wall mounted box or a receptacle unit that is plugged into an existing receptacle and supported in place by the existing receptacle. A temperature switch is wired parallel to a normally open test switch on a ground fault circuit interrupter or other circuit interrupting device. The temperature switch is responsive to the temperature local to the receptacle, such as is caused by poor connections to or in the receptacle. The temperature setpoint is less than the melting temperature of the insulation of the electrical wiring. Upon actuation of the temperature switch, the circuit interrupting device is latched in a tripped position until the device is reset for reuse.

  • Patent number: 8077094
Abstract: A plasma device having low thermal noise, which results in a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the plasma device. The plasma device includes devices with a plasma that is responsive to electromagnetic radiation and/or electrical signals. In various configurations, the plasma device has a plasma in which the temperature, resistance, pressure, and/or collision frequency are at a level sufficiently low to produce an acceptable level of noise. In another configuration, the operating frequency of the plasma device is at a level sufficiently high to produce an acceptable level of noise. Decreasing the noise level results in increasing the signal-to-noise ratio and increasing the data rate. The plasma temperature is reduced by operating the plasma device in the afterglow state. The plasma electron temperature is reduced by confining high energy electrons in a potential well and by using an electron emitting filament.

  • Patent number: 8033808
Abstract: A pressure compensating molding system with die faces of thin sheets. A thin die sheet separates a mold cavity from a heating/cooling cavity. A heating system causes a heated fluid to flow through the heating/cooling cavity, thereby preheating the thin sheet. The injection material is forced through a sprue into the mold cavity. Pressure sensors monitor the pressure of the injection material in the mold cavity and in the heating/cooling cavity. A controller varies the pressure in the heating/cooling cavity to equalize a pressure differential across the thin die sheet. A cooling system causes a cooling fluid to flow through the heating/cooling cavity to cool the molded component.

  • Patent number: 8020584
Abstract: A variable valve for impact dispersal of a force, such as a force caused by an impact or explosion. The apparatus includes a valve with a spring biased piston that engages an outlet bore as the piston moves in response to the pressure of a fluid at an inlet port. The valve is in fluid communication with a cylinder that receives an impulse force. The fluid flow from the cylinder is controlled by the variable valve, which disperses the force accordingly at a controlled rate. In one embodiment, a pressurized reservoir is connected to an extension valve and a check valve that allows the cylinder to be filled with fluid from the reservoir when the extension valve is actuated. Applications for such a system include connection to aircraft seats and to aircraft landing gear.

  • Patent number: 7930848
Abstract: Apparatus for a modular fire control assembly for a firearm. The modular fire control assembly integrates a hammer, a sear, a disconnector, and sear and disconnector springs in a single housing. The force applied by the sear spring is adjustable by a set screw, which enables the sear spring force to be dialed in. The sear spring and set screw are contained in a block in the housing. The sear spring engages a detent that applies spring force to the sear. The sear spring moves in a smooth bore that has a ledge that allows the spring to maintain a minimum force even when the set screw is removed. A self-contained disconnector spring ensures constant spring force on the disconnector regardless of adjustments to the sear spring force. The modular assembly is configured to be received in a lock cavity of the firearm and secured using conventional pins.

  • Patent number: 7887700
Abstract: An apparatus for skimming the top surface of a pool of fluid with a constant flow rate regardless of level changes of the fluid. A storage tank and a suction port are positioned at opposite ends of a conduit that connects the tank and the port. The conduit pivots about a pivot point such that the storage tank elevation follows the fluid level, which allows the suction port to be positioned at the surface of the fluid. In various embodiments, the pivot for the conduit is attached to a pump resting on the bottom of the tank, is formed by a pair of floats, is a pivot mechanism attached to a wall penetration of a tank, or is a flexible hose that allows the conduit to move.
