  • Patent number: 4902181
Abstract: A one piece fastener which uses spring action to fasten parts together. The fastener has a body which is inserted into a drilled aperture in the parts. An enlarged head on one end of the body is too large to enter the aperture. A spring on the other end of the body is normally too large to enter the aperture but can be retracted to a size to pass through the aperture. A stud has its head connected to the spring and its opposite end in threaded engagement with an internally threaded passage extending through the body of the fastener. Turning of the stud by a special tool applies a torsional force to the spring which retracts it so that the fastener can be applied to or removed from the fastened parts. Alternative embodiments of the invention employ various types of multiple stage springs to enhance the fastening power.

  • Patent number: 4901990
Abstract: A fixture for accurately locating a workpiece during machining operations. A table includes a plurality of frusto-conical openings arranged in a grid pattern to receive locator pins each having a frusto-conical base to seat closely in the opening in which it is inserted. The locator pins establish stops against which some parts of the workpiece are positioned. The workpiece is held against the pins by power cylinders carried on special pegs that can be inserted in the table openings. Air for operating the cylinders is made available to each opening through a valved line and a passageway extending to each opening in the table. Each peg has a passage arranged to receive the incoming fluid from the opening and to transmit the air to its cylinders to extend them against the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4900087
Abstract: An automobile seat having a built in child seat that assumes different positions to accommodate infants in a rearwardly facing position and children in a forwardly facing position. The child seat unit includes a back panel which is secured to the adult seat back and a pair of hinged seat panels. In a storage position, the seat panels are folded up to cover the back panel with cushion sides of the seat panels facing forwardly to provide cushions on the adult seat back. The seat panels can be folded downwardly with one horizontal and the other inclined to receive an infant on a padded insert applied to the inclined panel. When used as a child seat, the two seat panels are folded on top of one another with the cushion side of the top panel facing upwardly to provide the seat surface. A removable carrying handle can be provided to allow the seat to function as a child carrier when removed from the automobile seat.

  • Patent number: 4896657
Abstract: An exhaust hood for a pizza oven which induces exhaust materials into the exhaust stream by creating high velocity flow of outside air in the hood. An intake fan forces outside air into a central intake plenum having a restricted throat. An air deflector in the throat presents two oppositely directed slots creating high velocity air streams in opposite directions. Exhaust plenums on opposite sides of the hood receive the air and the entrained exhaust materials from the oven. An exhaust fan draws air into the exhaust plenums through inclined grease filters.

  • Patent number: 4893329
Abstract: A telephone call deferral system which allows incoming telephone calls to be deferred for a user selected period or until a user selected time. During the defer time, incoming calls are intercepted, the ring sound is suppressed, and the caller receives a voice message indicating that calls are not currently being received but will be at the specified defer time. Programming of the defer mode of operation is effected from the key pad of any telephone instrument connected with the telephone line of the user. An override system allows emergency calls to be completed from parties in possession of a special access code.

  • Patent number: 4890566
Abstract: The device of this invention includes a cleat disposed within a cavity formed by an exterior housing in a manner permitting the cleat to be moved between an extended position where the cleat is accessible to receive a boat line and a retracted position where the cleat is retracted into the cavity. The mechanism that allows the movement of the cleat between a retracted and extended position is within the cavity and includes a spring and a latching mechanism. The latching mechanism includes a latching member that pivotally moves within the latching mechanism between a latching position that holds the cleat in the retracted position and a release position where the latch memebr releases the cleat to the extended position under the influence of the spring. The latching mechanism allows for the cleat to be alternated between the extended and retracted position by successive depressions of the cleat into the cavity.

  • Patent number: 4887123
Abstract: A boxlight which serves as a source of light projected through a film transparency and focused on a photosensitive film in order to project the image on the transparency onto the film. The boxlight has an improved light source formed by pulsed xenon lamps arranged end to end to approximate a circle centered on the optical axis of the photoreproduction machine and contained in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis. Reflectors are provided in a circular arrangement extending around the light source circle and include reflective panels oriented at about 15.degree. to the optical axis. The circular configuration of the light counters cosine fourth losses and makes the light intensity pattern more uniform at the film plane.

  • Patent number: 4884604
Abstract: A combination simple and compound mitre gauge constitutes the subject matter of the present invention. The mitre gauge is intended to be utilized with power woodworking tools. The mitre gauge constitutes both a simple and compound gauge by utilizing an elongated member which slides in a groove on the supporting table and a support plate coupled with the member which is movable about a vertical axis and can be held in a given position by appropriate locking means. The support plate presents a vertical surface which mounts a guide that can be moved into one of two positions to vary the length of it. The guide may also be removed and a planar surface presenting shoe pivotally coupled with the support plate. The angle of the planar surface of the shoe may be varied and means is provided for locking the shoe in any given position.

  • Patent number: 4876530
Abstract: A microprocessor based system for detecting leaks from underground gasoline storage tanks and the product lines through which the gasoline is pumped to above ground dispensers. Hydrocarbon sensitive probes spaced around the tank in monitoring wells detect gasoline leakage from the tank. Each probe can be independently programmed as to the threshold hydrocarbon concentration considered to be indicative of a leak. Pressure transducers sense the product line pressure and distinguish thermally induced contraction from true leaks by comparing the time required for a preselected pressure drop to occur during successive cycles. A time comparison is also used to detect the presence of excessive air in the product line. An alarm condition sensed by either type of sensor generates audible and visible alarm signals and automatically dials a programmed telephone number. The alarm times and dates are stored in memory and may be called up on the display screen.
