Abstract: A heat dissipation apparatus for a light emitting diode (LED) lamp includes passive heat dissipation elements that enable the LED lamp to meet form factor standards while managing heat to optimize operation and lifespan of the LEDs. The heat dissipation apparatus includes a reflector dish that has surface area enhancement features. The heat dissipation apparatus is in thermal connection with the lamp LEDs. The heat dissipation apparatus further includes a heat pipe that further enhances the passive heat dissipation.

Abstract: A modular solid-state lamp has a plurality of replaceable and rearrangeable modules. The modular lamp uses active cooling and passive cooling for thermal management. One cooling system for the modular lamp includes at least one active cooling device and a graphite heat sink in thermal contact with the at least one active cooling device to further enhance the efficiency of the cooling system. The modular solid-state lamp includes at least two modules, a power supply module and a light source module. The power supply module includes a power supply and LED driver that are able to power one or more light source modules. The power supply module further includes sensors that further improve the energy-efficiency of the lamp.

Abstract: A high-power light-emitting diode (LED) lamp has a plurality of units. Each unit includes an LED die and a thermo-electric cooling device coupled to the LED die. A power source supplies a fixed current to the thermo-electric cooling device wherein the fixed current is based on heat generated by the LED die in normal operation. Accordingly, the unit operates without a controller.

Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) illumination device provides an arrangement of LEDs spaced from the base of the device. The LEDs are spaced in a staggered vertical arrangement. The configuration of LEDs manages heat such that brightness and lifespan are maximized. In addition, the arrangement of LEDs broadens the project area of the device.

Abstract: A tag transmits signals having at least two different frequency components. The signals are receivable by at least some of a plurality of spaced receivers. Each receiver, in response to receiving a signal, measures respective phases of the first and second frequency components and a frequency offset between the tag and the receiver. The frequency offset is dependent upon a difference in frequencies of respective clocks in the tag and the receiver. A position processor obtains a difference in phases of the first and second frequency components for a signal, a frequency offset between the receiver and tag and determines the position of the tag in dependence upon the difference between respective phases of the first and second frequency components and in dependence upon the frequency offset.

Abstract: The invention relates generally to cognitive stimulation apparatuses and systems, and methods of manufacturing the same. In certain exemplary implementations the invention provides an at least partially transparent, pliable gel having an optical property, such as brightness or color, and a circuit for delivering electromagnetic radiation to the gel to modify the optical property. Under certain conditions, modifying the optical property can stimulate a user's visual and other senses to help improve cognitive development and functionality.

Abstract: A mounting system for a light fixture includes a lamp holder and a mounting device coupled to the holder where the mounting device enables the lamp holder to be mounted in one of a plurality of mounting modes. The mounting modes include a flush mode, a semi-flush mode and attachment to a ceiling fan. The lamps that may be used in the light fixture include a fluorescent lamp, an incandescent, or a halogen lamp. The light fixture with the mounting system that enables multiple mounting modes can be provided as a single product in a single package.
