  • Patent number: 7076946
Abstract: A pump-motor unit (35) including a swashplate (95) having a neutral position (FIG. 3) and first and second displaced positions and comprising first (87) and second (89) pressure actuators associated with the swashplate. Displacement of the swashplate is proportional to substantially only the difference in fluid pressure between a high pressure source (41) and a low pressure source (39). The first pressure actuator includes a first control piston (121) having a first effective area (A1), and the second pressure actuator includes a second control piston (127) having a second effective area (A2), the second effective area being at least somewhat greater than the first effective area. If the high and low pressure sources are at substantially the same pressure, the pressure acting on both of the first and second effective areas will displace the swashplate from neutral toward the second displaced position.

  • Patent number: 7051857
Abstract: A method of controlling a pressure control valve assembly (69) to control a control pressure (43,71) in a system (11) including a source (47,49) of pressurized fluid. The control valve assembly is operable to vary the control pressure in response to variations in an electrical input signal (87) to an electromagnetic coil (81). The control valve assembly defines an inlet (77) in communication with the control pressure, an outlet (93) in communication with the low pressure, and a valve seat (89) disposed intermediate the inlet (77) and the outlet (93). A poppet valve member (91) is biased toward the valve seat by a biasing means including an armature (95), the biasing force being generally proportional to the input signal to the coil. The method comprises the steps of selecting a predetermined, minimum pressure for the control pressure corresponding to a minimum condition of the system.

  • Patent number: 6743002
Abstract: A gerotor motor including a brake package, and a method for setting the load holding torque of the brake package. The endcap assembly (21) defines a set of internal threads (85) disposed adjacent a brake package piston member (75). An enclosure member (87) defines a spring seat (115) for a set of Belleville washers (105), and defines a set of external threads (88) engaging the internal threads (85). Upon assembly of the motor and brake package, a resistance load is applied to a motor output shaft (43) corresponding to a desired load holding torque. The motor is pressurized sufficiently to rotate the output shaft in opposition to the resistance load. The enclosure member (87) is rotated so that it moves axially in a direction to increase the bias preload on the Belleville washers (105) until the output shaft (43) no longer rotates.

  • Patent number: 6729314
Abstract: A method of operating a control system to move an EGR valve (24) toward its seat (32), in which the control system includes an actuator (16) operable in response to an electrical position command signal (84, 86). The method comprises the steps of determining (102) if the valve is being commanded toward a closed position, and determining (106) if the valve is still at least a predetermined distance (X) from a Stage 1 Position. If both answers are affirmative, the valve is commanded toward the Stage 1 Position, then the logic determines when the valve is within a predetermined tolerance (T) of the Stage 1 Position, and when it is, the logic provides a position command signal corresponding to an unchanging position of the valve for a predetermined period of time (Y), while any overshoot of the valve position settles out, and the valve position stabilizes before the logic proceeds with the rest of the closing operations.
