    Abstract: A multitone DPSK modulator produces a composite analog signal in which the phases of the tones included within the composite analog signal represent data. The modulator uses digital circuitry to synthesize a plurality of analog tones simultaneously. On a periodic basis, input digital data controls the amount by which the phase of each of the component tones is shifted. Synthesis is accomplished by periodically retrieving signals from a sine table and applying the retrieved signals to a D/A converter. A composite analog signal is sythesized by summing a retrieved signal from the sine table for each of the component tones during each sampling period. The number of tones included within the composite analog signal and the frequency, amplitude and starting phases of each of the component tones may be programmed and thus readily changed.

    Abstract: The hygroscopic breather cap for a fluid such as a liquid petroleum tank in which air enters the bottom of an elongated cylinder, passes through a knitted fabric filter to remove dust particles, passes through a desiccant along the entire height of the cylinder to remove moisture, passes through a second knitted fabric filter to remove desiccant fines, and then passes into the opening of a standpipe for passage downwardly along the axis of the cylinder into the petroleum tank. A window may be provided in the top of the cylinder to view the condition of the desiccant, or alternatively, the body of the cylinder may be made transparent. A number of reduced strength areas may be provided at the bottom of the cylinder so that the effective size of the opening to the atmosphere may be selectively varied. A removable cap permits a recharging of the cylinder with desiccant.

    Abstract: A high speed antenna coupler and method for rapidly switching binary weighted values of inductance and capacitance into and out of the circuit between an antenna and a utilization circuit without unacceptably degrading the coupler or slowing the switching action. PIN diodes are utilized as switches and the control wires for the PIN diodes are disposed interiorly of the copper tubing which forms the inductance elements. The control wire for a particular inductor is withdrawn from the interior of that inductor adjacent the mid-point thereof so that the control wire will be at the same RF potential as the inductor being controlled. Two diodes are utilized for each inductor, one connected to each end thereof, so that only half of the normal reverse bias is required for switching purposes. Where a transformer is utilized to couple the antenna to the utilization circuit, the control wires may be disposed interiorly of the copper tubing which forms the winding of the transformer.

    Abstract: A roller bearing for endless linear motion wherein a casing mounted on a track rail makes linear motion through a plurality of rollers circulating endlessly. A circulating path for the rollers is constructed by load track, return hole and direction changing path. The load track and return hole are straight, parallel to each other and approximately square shape in cross section, respectively. The center of the return hole does not lie in the horizontal bisecting plane of the right angle V groove of the load track. The return hole is symmetric to the load track with respect to the perpendicular bisector of the segment line joining the centers of the rollers in the return hole and the load track. The direction changing path is a cylindrical surface of revolution which is approximately square shape in cross section and which is formed by revolving 180.degree.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating the spheres from the non-spheres in a large number of particles of lamp fill material of substantially equal mass in which the spheres are placed in the grooves of an inclined surface to roll downwardly thereon under the influence of gravity. The grooves are configured to limit the contact with the particles to two points intermediate the depth of the groove so as to keep the particles out of contact with the bottom of the groove. Vacuum pick-up means are used to remove those particles which do not roll down the grooves because of their spherical irregularities. The surfaces in contact with the lamp fill material are made of stainless steel and the entire operation is conducted within the confines of a dry box to minimize contamination.

A process for producing the substantially pure amalgam particles of accurately controlled size includes heating a mixture of sodium and mercury to form a melt, passing the melt through a vibrating discharge nozzle and subjecting the droplets so formed to an inert cooling fluid maintained at a temperature below the solidification point of the amalgam. An apparatus for producing the amalgam particles comprises a vessel to contain an alkali metal amalgam melt, a vibrating discharge nozzle adapted to form the melt into uniformly sized droplets, and a column of inert cooling fluid maintained at a low temperature at which the melt droplets are solidified.

Specifically, an inductor for practicing the method of the invention is constructed in the form of a multi-turn coil which is adapted to be separated to a certain number of coil segments corresponding to the geometrical configuration of the metallic elongated material. Uniform distribution of temperature over the metallic elongated material is achieved by properly program controlling power supply to the respective turns of the coil and thereby controlling a heating time thereof, while the inductor itself is maintained as fixed.
