Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire (10) has an overlay structure (19) disposed radially outwardly of the belt reinforcing structure (14). The overlay structure (19) comprises side by side cables of 420/2 nylon having a cable twist of not greater than seven turns per inch.
Abstract: A tread (10) for a tire has at least three wide grooves (13,14,15,16) therein. At least two zigzag ribs (19,20,21) are bordered by said grooves and have block elements (22) nested in the reentrant angles of the ribs and separated therefrom by narrow grooves (23). The wide grooves (13,14,15,16) well remain open in a footprint of a tire while the narrow grooves (23) will close up in a footprint of a tire. Tire treads according to the invention may be provided as precured retread material, as part of a newly manufactured tire, or as part of a retreaded tire.
Abstract: The turn-up portion of the carcass ply (12) in the bead portion of a pneumatic tire is interposed between the bead core (11) and a clamping member (18). The bead core (11) has a radial cross section which is substantially pentagonal. The clamping member (18) comprises a heat shrinkable material that secures the turn-up portion of the carcass ply in a desired location. Elastomeric stiffening members (19,20) are disposed on each side of the carcass ply (12) in the bead portions and lower sidewalls of the tire. The assembly of a tire according to the invention mounted upon a specified rim (22) is also disclosed.
