  • Patent number: 5817929
Abstract: A corrugator paste or adhesive manufacturing system provides a viscosity testing tank which is separate from other tanks used in the system. Separate storage tanks are provided for storing each of a plurality of different pastes or adhesives. A closed loop system or network of pipes circulates paste or adhesive from a mixing tank or tanks and from each of the storage tanks through a viscosity monitoring station, and then back to the storage tanks after a viscosity test is performed in the testing tank. An electronic control circuit allocates a time for giving each tank access to the viscosity monitoring station and for comparing the measurements during each such time with a pre-stored criterion for the paste or adhesive that is then being measured. If the viscosity read at the monitoring station corresponds to the stored criterion, the adhesive is returned to its proper storage tank.

  • Patent number: 5814351
Abstract: An applicator for drywall mastic can alternatively cover flat drywall joints, outside corner drywall joints, or simultaneously both outside corners on a stub drywall, all with little or no manual adjustment of the applicator. A spring biased lever is pivotally mounted on each side of the applicator. Normally, the bias extends a projection on the lever which rides over the edge of the outside corner in order to guide and direct the applicator as it moves along a corner wall. A circumferential flange on a wheel cooperates with the projection to give greater stability. If the applicator is pressed against a flat wall, the projection is pushed back against the bias of the spring so that the projection has no effect.

  • Patent number: 5813993
Abstract: A drowsiness detection system constructed according to the invention provides improved performance by preserving and analyzing newly discovered information contained in rhythmic signal components above 30 Hz which the prior art has universally ignored or discarded as "noise." In the first and second embodiments of the invention, one or more analog EEG signals are collected from a subject, appropriately filtered, converted into digital form, and subjected to frequency analysis. Selected signal components from the frequencies above 30 Hz (such as the frequency range 80-420 Hz), which have a high correlation with subject drowsiness, are isolated, and their amplitude, energy, or power contribution to the EEG signal is used to produce a continuous output measure reflecting the subject's alertness or drowsiness. The output measure may be compared with a threshold to provide an indication of whether the subject is excessively drowsy.

  • Patent number: 5811858
Abstract: With regard to paired drive transistors, the shape of an active area is (point or line) symmetrical to a channel area in the vicinity of the channel area. With regard to paired transfer transistors, likewise, the shape of a word line is (point or line) symmetrical to the channel area in the vicinity thereof. With this structure, even if a gate electrode (word line) should be misaligned, therefore, the shapes of the channel areas of the paired transistors would become identical, so that there would be no difference between characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5809812
Abstract: The present invention provides an electronic lock with a deadbolt actuator. The actuator has, a casing, a deadbolt shaft protruding through the casing and an eccentric in said casing attached to said deadbolt shaft to rotate with the deadbolt shaft. A pair of pusher blades are connected to an interior handle supporting tube extending into said casing. The pusher blades are connected to a main bolt shaft to rotate said pusher blades relative to each other wherein the shaft rotates one of said pusher blades while said other pusher blade is not rotated. The pusher blades are in selective contact with the eccentric and move the eccentric from a first position wherein the deadbolt is retracted and to a second position wherein the deadbolt is extended to a locking position. The deadbolt is extended and retracted by either turning the interior thumb turn or turning an exterior handle in an appropriate direction.

  • Patent number: 5808642
Abstract: A print head for a continuous ink jet printer has a nozzle 5 through which ink is emitted and broken up into droplets under the action of a piezoelectric oscillator. A charge electrode 3 applies charge to selected droplets and a deflection electrode 4 deflects the path 20 of the charged droplets to cause printing on a substrate. A gutter 6 collects droplets which are not required for printing. A charge electrode 3, together with one of the deflection electrodes 4 is movable in a direction transverse to the path of the droplets selectively under the action of pressurised ink fed from an ink supply 14. Similarly, the gutter 6 is movable in the same way.
