  • Patent number: 4689752
Abstract: Self contained radio transmitting state estimator modules are mounted on power conductors on both sides of power transformers in electrical substations and on power conductors at various places along electrical transmission lines. They are electrically isolated from ground and all other conductors. These modules are capable of measuring current, voltage, frequency and power factor (or the Fouier components thereof), the temperature of the conductor and the temperature of the ambient air. The modules transmit these parameters to local receivers. The receivers are connected by an appropriate data transmission link to a power control center which allows determination of the state of the power system. Appropriate control signals are transmitted back to the electrical switchgear of the system to bring it to the appropriate optimum state. Direct local control may also be effected, for example, the prevention of overloading a transformer.

  • Patent number: 4662221
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed which relate to measuring the quantity and thermal insulating value of fibrous material as it is delivered from a source to another location. A feeder mechanism is provided for delivering the material such as insulation to housing from which it is dispensed ultimately to some cavity such as wall space or surface. The housing includes rotary vanes which divide the housing into a number of separate chambers. A measuring system provided with electronic circuitry and acoustical apparatus delivers a controlled acoustical signal to the chamber containing the fibrous material. A sensor senses acoustical signal generated by a source but altered by the fibrous material within the chamber. Signals corresponding to the source signal and the sensed signal are both fed to a comparator which in turn emits a signal proportional to the volume and density, or thermal insulating value of material contained in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4657056
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly for a log debarker. A cutting tool is provided having an elongated leading cutting edge and a key member. The key member fits into the load carrying slot portion of the head of the tool shaft, and the tool is then secured to the tool shaft head with a plurality of retainer bolts. The tool shaft head is machined at an angle of generally five degrees relative to the axis of an incoming log so as to slant the orientation of the tool and its leading edge. Thus, an incoming log will impact initially a central location of the tool and not its full length. A tensioning device places the tool shaft in tension about a pivot axis and the outermost tip of the tool continually points towards the center line of an incoming log as the tool shaft pivots about this pivot axis. Every other tool is extended a slight distance further towards the incoming log than the adjacent tools by an extension spacer or washer to further reduce the shock loading previously encountered.

  • Patent number: 4653210
Abstract: This invention relates to a firearm and more particularly to a firearm having a bolt action in which a bolt is arranged for axial and rotational movement in a receiver and an extractor system operable in combination with the movement of the bolt relative to the bolt receiver. The bolt includes lugs having a locking surface which engages a locking wall formed on a cooperating lug on the receiver when the bolt is in the firing position. Both the locking surface and locking wall are arranged at cooperating angles and are conically shaped so as to insure that the axis of the bolt and receiver will be concentric when the bolt is locked in the firing position. In the event of a cartridge rupture the angle of the locking wall causes some of the forces generated by the rupture to be diverted at an angle from the axis, thereby minimizing the shearing stresses on the receiver lugs.

  • Patent number: 4649706
Abstract: A hydraulic feed control system for log debarkers having three infeed and three outfeed rolls. Each roll is driven by its own hydraulic motor. Each infeed motor is connected in series with a corresponding outfeed motor whereby three pairs of motors are defined. The hydraulic fluid is pumped through a three way flow divider which divides the fluid equally to each of these pairs. Each of the motors has a special crossover relief with a directional flow control that will prevent the excessive pressure that may be created by one of the motors in the series from effecting the pressure to the other motors. The special relief is also provided with a direct line into the oil reservoir which if needed either of the motors in series may siphon oil from the reservoir through the directional flow control valve without affecting the other motor. The return line from the outfeed (down flow) motor joins a common return which is separate from the relief return to tank.

  • Patent number: 4622952
Abstract: A process for the treatment of cancer by the application of external electromagnetic energy capable of achieving biophysical alterations in the intracellular structure of cancer cells in living tissue, including stimulation of intracellular production of interferon. The process accomplishes these biophysical alterations by tuning an external electromagnetic energy to the resonant energy absorption frequencies of the intracellular structure of the selected cells and then exposing the subject to this tuned electromagnetic energy field. Alternatively, the field can be tuned to the frequency which has been calculated to be closest to the resonant frequency of the cancer cells and furthest from the resonant frequency of the normal cells. The process may be further enhanced by the intracellular absorption of selected materials designed to alter the magnetic susceptibility and therefore the resonant energy absorption frequency of the intracellular structure.
