  • Patent number: 4499340
Abstract: The driver of a speaker for an automotive audio system includes a plurality of magnetic coils wound around a common bobbin. Each of the magnetic coils is connected to one of a plurality of amplifiers each of which output an identical drive signal. By applying the common drive signal to each magnetic coil, the electromagnetic field created around the magnetic coil is enhanced approximately in proportion to the number of magnetic coils. Due to this increased electromagnetic force, a vehicle panel serving as a sound-amplifying medium can be satisfactorily and successfully driven so as to produce high-quality sound. The amplifiers are adapted to amplify the low-frequency components of the audio signal from a main amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4495952
Abstract: An apparatus for the contactless measuring of the movement in three dimensions of the jaw and of the condyle in the temporo-mandibular joint respectively comprising opto-electronic signal transmitters and signal receivers between which light signals are transmitted. In one embodiment, a measuring head having light transmitters and light receivers mounted therein is secured to the lower jaw and moves with the lower jaw relative to reflecting plates. The light receivers generate signals varying with the length of the light path between the transmitter and the receiver and thus represent the movement of the lower jaw. In a second embodiment, the light transmitters generate collimated beams of light and are fixed to move with the lower jaw with respect to light receivers which have biaxial position sensitivity to the transmitted light beams. In a third embodiment, light beam transmitters are moved with the lower jaw relative to gratings so as to generate light pulses corresponding to movement of the lower jaw.

  • Patent number: 4494773
Abstract: A tiltable steering arrangement is arranged with the axis of rotation thereof relatively close to the steering wheel and in the near vicinity of a relatively heavy valve arrangement associated therewith. A locking device is located at a distance from the axis of rotation and on the other side thereof with respect to the steering wheel. This provides a mechanical advantage with allows for a less robust locking mechanism which is not subject to large moments of force which would otherwise result if the mass were located at a distance from the axis of rotation while increasing the amount of angle adjustment possible.

  • Patent number: 4495383
Abstract: An apparatus for interfacing a speaker phone with a telephone network includes switch means for selectively connecting said interfacing apparatus with a telephone network to permit either conventional or automatic answering. A coupler, responsive to ringing signals on the telephone lines discharges a charging capacitor to a level sufficient to cause the automatic, hands-free interconnection of the speaker phone with the telephone line. In one embodiment, a timer is provided for limiting the length of time during which the speaker phone is coupled to the telephone line. A reset switch is provided in cooperation with the timer to permit the timing cycle to be reset upon command, thereby to shorten the time of connection if desired. The system operates in either a timed or extended mode. To bypass the timer and indefinitely extend the time during which the answered call is coupled between the telephone lines and the speaker phone, an extend switch is also provided to override the timer.

  • Patent number: 4494059
Abstract: The condition of a surface is sensed by cyclically moving two members having engaged surfaces relative to each other, driving the surfaces for only a portion of each cycle to set up a threshold kinetic energy level in accordance with the friction between the engaged surfaces, sensing the kinetic energy developed in one of the members due to moving the members relative to each other, comparing the developed kinetic energy with the threshold kinetic energy and controlling the cyclic movement of the members in accordance with the relationship between the kinetic energy threshold and the developed kinetic energy. The cyclic movement of the members is then used to provide a visual indication of the condition of one of the surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4492535
Abstract: A diaphragm pump especially for pumping viscous and abrasive materials including a spherical housing, the inner portion of which defines a pumping chamber together with a cylindrical hose membrane activated by a pulsating medium. One or more hose membranes surround a support pipe having a circular cross section to prevent compressive strain on the membranes during pumping by deformation of the membrane in the inward direction. In an alternative embodiment, a modulated support tube is provided to permit the diaphragm to flap into the indentations of the support tube in a manner neutral to longitudinal extension. Support rings are provided which permit symmetrical arching of the hose diaphragm during the compression stroke.

  • Patent number: 4491032
Abstract: A transmission is connected with a manually operable control or shift lever by a control rod which transmits a driver's manual movement to the transmission. In order to prevent a resonance of the control rod from being caused by vibration of the engine, the control rod is divided into two parts which are connected end to end by a joint. There is further provided a support rod which supports the control lever and the control rod. The support rod extends substantially in parallel with the control rod, and both of its ends are connected, respectively, to a vehicle body or a housing of the transmission. The support rod has bearing means for swingably supporting the control lever and an arm which supports the control rod, at the either one of its two parts, rotatably and axially slidably.

  • Patent number: 4489518
Abstract: In a tiltable or pivotal window in which the frame and sash side members that are perpendicular to the axis of rotation have oppositely facing abutment surface sections on either side of the axis area, said abutment surface sections merge smoothly into each other through an abutment surface section formed as a helical surface of about 180.degree.. A continuous weather strip may be provided on one or both of the abutment surfaces. If such strips are provided on both surfaces, they may be magnetic with opposite transverse polarization to improve tightness and minimize sliding contact between the strips in the helical surface area.

  • Patent number: 4489266
Abstract: This invention relates to a circuit and to a method for processing amplitude and phase variable multiphase signals, which are required as current or voltage reference to drive electric motors, comprising a synchro-resolver angular position transducer, rigidly connected with a synchronous motor with the same polar configuration and number of poles thereof, according to which the analog signals detected by said transducer are modulated, demodulated and outputted out of phase by 90.degree. with the signals relating to the rotating magnetic field. The circuit moreover comprises a phase shifter device and means for modifying the amplitude of signals out-putted by said transducer as a function of at least one control signal. The resultant of the signals processed by said means is supplied to an amplifier to generate in the stator currents of determined amplitude and phases for driving said motor complying with the magnetic laws thereof.
