  • Patent number: 5437098
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a brake booster, a step of defining a fixed distance between a peripheral surface on a rear shell of the brake booster and an eye of a linkage member attached to a brake pedal when the movable wall is in a rest position, The wall in the brake booster is adapted to be rotated with respect to a variable surface on the rear shell which acts as a stop for the wall in the rest position. The location of the wall with respect to the variable surface establishes a desired fixed linear dimension between a peripheral surface on the rear shell and an eye on the linkage member which is attached to connecting pin the brake pedal. When the control valve is in the rest position this fixed linear dimension also defines a corresponding fixed location for the pad of the brake pedal with respect to a floor panel in a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5417402
Abstract: A fluid pressure control apparatus having a main valve and a pilot valve for moving the main valve to a shutoff position as a function of the fluid pressure in a supply fluid. The pilot valve is connected to receive supply fluid having a fluid pressure Ps through a first passage. A second passage connected to the first passage communicates supply fluid to a control chamber in the main valve. A first restriction in the second passage limits the fluid pressure of the supply fluid communicated to the control chamber to a fluid pressure Pc. The control chamber is connected to a reservoir having a fluid pressure Pr through a third passage having a second restriction therein to control the flow of fluid from the control chamber. A first piston located in the main valve is responsive to a pressure differential between the fluid in the control chamber and supply fluid presented to an outlet chamber to control the flow of supply fluid as a fluid pressure Pc to a system from the main valve.

  • Patent number: 5417556
Abstract: A floating bearing having an oval body located in a cavity along with a fixed bearing retains a pair of intermeshing gear members in the cavity in a housing of a pump. A spacer member engages an axial rib on the oval body to form a control chamber between the spacer member and the oval body. A resilient member provides an initial force which urges the floating bearing into engagement with the pair of intermeshing gears and forms a gap between the spacer and the oval body. Entrance fluid pressure from an entrance chamber is communicated to the control chamber while discharge fluid pressure from a discharge chamber is communicated to the gap. The entrance and discharge fluid pressures act on the floating bearing to provides a secondary force which urges the floating bearing into engagement with the pair of intermeshing gears to seal the entrance chamber from the discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 5417067
Abstract: A piston arrangement for a master cylinder having a pin for linking a center compensation valve in primary and secondary pistons with a stop members. The primary and secondary each have a pin located in a blind bore which has a cylindrical body with a first semi-spherical head on a first end and a second semi-spherical head located on a second end. A valve return spring acts on a poppet assembly of each compensation valve to position a stem between the first and second semi-spherical heads to hold the pins in the primary and secondary pistons. When a piston return spring moves the primary and secondary pistons toward a rest position, the second semi-spherical heads are held stationary as the pins pivots about the first semi-spherical heads to act on stems and move poppets away from seats and communicate fluid from a source to pressurizing chambers associated with the primary and secondary pistons.

  • Patent number: 5411652
Abstract: An electrochemical processor having a first frustoconical chamber for receiving a workpiece to be processed. A plurality of sources of process fluids are connected to the frustoconical chamber for sequentially cleaning, providing an electrolyte and sealing the surface of the workpiece. • Patent number: 5403173
Abstract: A housing for a pump having a cavity therein formed by first and second side walls connected to first and second semicircular end walls. A pair of intermeshing gear members are journaled in a floating bearing and a fixed bearing are located in the cavity. The intermeshing gear members respond to a clockwise rotary torque to pressurize fluid in transporting a fluid from an entrance chamber to a discharge chamber. The fluid in the discharge chamber acts on and urges the floating bearing and fixed bearing into engagement with portions of the first and second semicircular end walls and first side wall to seal the entrance chamber from the discharge chamber. The intermeshing gear members respond to a counterclockwise torque by transporting fluid from the discharge chamber to the entrance chamber to develop an internal fluid pressure. The internal fluid pressure acts on and urges the floating and fixed bearings toward the first and second semicircular end walls and second side wall.
