  • Patent number: 4446017
Abstract: An oil filter assembly is disclosed, characterized by a sectional housing and a removable filter member arranged therein. The housing includes base and cover members having adjacent planar faces which contain a plurality of corresponding, circular, concentrically spaced grooves which define a plurality of ribs. A radial groove in the face of each member extends through each of the associated ribs to afford communication between the associated grooves. The radial grooves of the housing members extend diametrically radially outwardly in opposite directions and the housing contains inlet and outlet openings communicating with the radial grooves, respectively. The filter member has a planar configuration, is removably mounted between the base and cover members, and extends between the circular grooves contained in the base and cover members on opposite sides of the filter.

  • Patent number: 4441445
Abstract: The trimaran has a lateral hull which is fixed at the end of a beam rotatably mounted on a longitudinal axis, which itself is supported by an outrigger protruding from the central hull. A jack allows the lateral hull to rotate around the axis (arrow). Openings are provided in the lateral hull, in order to fill and flush it. The catamaran can be righted from the capsized position by a rotation of the water-filled side hulls through about 90.degree., because the side hulls then act as ballasted keels. After emptying the lateral hulls and returning the beams to their normal position, navigation may be resumed.

  • Patent number: 4442016
Abstract: A method is disclosed for increasing the cycle stability of a latent heat accumulator medium consisting essentially of a pure or saturated sodium sulfate salt melt. The cycle stability is increased by adding sulfuric acid to the latent heat accumulator medium in an amount of from 0.5 to 3%, by weight, based on the weight of the latent heat accumulator medium. The pH value of the latent heat accumulator medium is lowered without precipitation of impurities or the occurance of supercooling in the latent heat accumulator medium.

  • Patent number: 4435237
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for forming a novel corrugated paperboard web of indefinite length, which web includes a planar facer layer and a corrugated layer the flutes of which extend longitudinally the length of the web. The web is formed by splicing together sections having offset planar facer and corrugated layers of generally equal dimensions, respectively, whereby at one end the facer layer projects beyond the corrugated layer and at the other end the corrugated layer projects beyond the facer layer, the flutes of the corrugated layer extending from one projecting end to the other. Successive sections are spliced together with the projecting facer layer portion of one section overlying the projecting corrugated portion and the facing layer of another section, preferably with the adjacent portions of the corrugated layers of the two sections being in flute-enmeshing engagement.

  • Patent number: 4430995
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved air-purifying device for respirators of the positive pressure type. The device comprises an expandable chamber having an outlet for connection to a facepiece, for example, a face mask, and an inlet connected to a pump for drawing ambient air into the device through a filter and pumping it into the chamber. In use, the wearer of the face mask draws air from the chamber and that air is replenished by operation of the pump.Apparatus is provided for sensing the degree of expansion of the expandable chamber and is coupled with a device for varying the power supplied to the pump so that the pump means supplies only sufficient filtered air to maintain the chamber inflated. A bias is provided on the chamber, advantageously coupled with the sensing apparatus for maintaining a positive pressure in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4425588
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for use in a digital signal transmission or recording system, particularly for video signals where, as is customary, the number of digital signals (i.e., digital words) is reduced (for example, by a factor of 2) prior to transmission or recording. The apparatus is operable to determine when a digital word fed to an input filter has a characteristic similar to that of a filtered word so that such a word can bypass the input filter and be transmitted or recorded without further filtering. This is achieved by monitoring the words input to the input filter and then operating a bypass around the input filter when the monitoring circuit detects that an input word has a characteristic similar to a filtered word.

  • Patent number: 4424725
Abstract: An improved differential mechanism of the holdout ring type is disclosed, characterized in that the annular holdout rings are mounted concentrically between the driven clutch members and the associated side gears, respectively, and the springs biasing the driven clutch members toward engagement with the driving spider member arranged therebetween includes a pair of compression springs mounted concentrically between the holdout rings and the side gears, each spring reacting at opposite ends between the associated side gear and annular spring retainer member, respectively. Furthermore, the driven clutch members are each provided with only one set of uniform teeth which cooperate both with driving teeth on the spider member and overrunning clutch-disengaging teeth on the center cam member. Consequently, a compact durable positive differential mechanism is provided that is of relatively simple, inexpensive construction requiring a minimum number of parts.

  • Patent number: 4416408
Abstract: A solder removing device is disclosed for absorbing solder which has been rendered molten by the application of heat, including an open-mesh structure comprising a strand and formed by knitting, as a primary example, at least the surface of the strand being metallic and receptive to solder flux (and indeed being coated with solder flux rendering it more capable of wetting with molten solder). The open-mesh structure enables the device to absorb solder more freely and in greater quantities than can prior braided devices in which the multiple strands are contiguous.
