  • Patent number: 8041699
Abstract: A process is disclosed for retrieving information in large heterogeneous data bases, wherein information retrieval through visual querying/browsing is supported by dynamic taxonomies; the process providing the steps of: initially showing (F1) a complete taxonomy for the retrieval; refining (F2) the retrieval through a selection of subsets of interest, where the refining is performed by selecting concepts in the taxonomy and combining them through boolean operations; showing (F3) a reduced taxonomy for the selected set; and further refining (F4) the retrieval through an iterative execution of the refining and showing steps.

  • Patent number: 8039805
Abstract: A SPECT system which scans over multiple separate scans and individually motion compensates the information obtained from each of these scans. The separate scans may be over different angular extents and may be for different purposes. One of the scans for example may be a scout scan, and the other scans may then be scans which concentrate on areas identified during the scout scan. Alternatively, the scans may all being exactly the same and stitched together after the individual motion compensation. Since each of the scans are shorter, the patient will presumably have moved less during each individual scan, and the amount of motion is hence presumably less.

  • Patent number: 8040216
Abstract: A virtual security guard or receptionist automatically allows entry to an area by determining a user's identity and comparing that to an access list. If the user is authorized, then the user is allowed entry to the area. The receptionist can be implemented by either a sign, or by using a virtual receptionist to shows a picture selected from a media server that has many different pictures. Computer intelligence can be used to allow the receptionist to carry out almost any operation that is carried out by a real receptionist.

  • Patent number: 8031131
Abstract: A stage lighting system with a digital and analog part. The digital part is used to form the image, which can be, for example, a full brightness image. The analog part is used to dim the image, and to carry out failsafe operation. If an error occurs in the digital part, then the analog part prevents the image from being shown.

  • Patent number: 8032113
Abstract: Users are allowed to download information from a cellular network, but are charged for the download. A part of the charge for the download goes to the creator of the information and download. A device determines how many downloads each user-created item has received. Also, a list is provided which displays to other users which are the most commonly downloaded elements.

  • Patent number: 8028158
Abstract: Backup applications that use externally connected hard disk drives for storing full image backups of a windows system disk or compressed image or file by file backups of a windows system disk. A system incrementally updates the images, including the system registry, and puts information on the external drive that makes it bootable.

  • Patent number: 8024963
Abstract: Apparatus and techniques for extracting information carried in higher eigenmodes or harmonics of an oscillating cantilever or other oscillating sensors in atomic force microscopy and related MEMs work are described. Similar apparatus and techniques for extracting information using contact resonance with multiple excitation signals are also described.

  • Patent number: 8022954
Abstract: Three-digital micromirror devices (“DMD”) are used to alter the shape of light that is projected onto a stage. The DMDs each receive a primary color and selectively reflects some light of that color, thereby shaping the light that is projected onto the stage. The control for the alteration is controlled by an image. That image can be processed, thereby carrying out image processing effects on the shape of the light that is displayed. One preferred application follow the shape of the performer and illuminates the performer using a shape that adaptively follows the performer's image. This results in a shadowless follow spot.

  • Patent number: 8024530
Abstract: Secure erase of files and unallocated sectors on storage media such that any previous data is non-recoverable. The database contains sets of data patterns used to overwrite the data on different physical media. The software programs manage the overwriting process automatically when a file has been deleted. When de-allocated sectors in the file system are pruned from a file or escaped the file deletion process also finds them. Data will never be found on deleted sectors or on pruned sectors is overwritten.

  • Patent number: 8018398
Abstract: Control of multiple display screens associated with a computer, wherein the auxiliary screen display content that depends on conditions of the computer. During some times the auxiliary screen displays content associated with the presently executing program, and during other times the auxiliary screen displays history information. The rules can be automatically changed or manually changed.

  • Patent number: 8019060
Abstract: Transaction data is entered by the user in response to prompts in a template. The template and entered data are accumulated into data transactions which are exploded and sent to an external database servers for processing and storage. Each database server may explode the data transaction to produce ancillary records which are then stored, and/or forwards the data transaction or some or all of the ancillary records to other database servers for updating other databases associated with those database servers. The database server(s) may also return data streams for use in completing the fields in the data transaction.

  • Patent number: 8016963
Abstract: This document describes the methodology for laminating layers of converted materials to form a precision laminated multilayered structure. With this methodology the pattern in the next layer to be laminated to create the multilayered structure can be adjusted based upon first or prior layer that the next layer is to be laminated to. The next layer will then be precisely aligned to the first or prior layers creating a precision laminated multilayer structure.

  • Patent number: 8009214
Abstract: A column parallel image sensor such as an active pixel sensor includes a calibration circuit for the readout circuit within the active pixel sensor. The calibration circuit produces a value that is stored and used to offset any noise in the A/D converter. The calibration is carried out each time that each row is read out so in effect the calibration's individual for each pixel. Hence, any noise within the calibration evens out within the image, and is effectively random within the image and hence becomes less noticeable within the image.

  • Patent number: RE42807
Abstract: A system for improving the operation of a GPS based navigator. Statistical and/or time of day information is used to select the best route between a current location and a desired location. The statistical information may take into account anomalies, and a user can select the amount of risk they which take. The system can be updated with more updated information.
