  • Patent number: 5940464
Abstract: A zirconium alloy tube for forming the whole or the outer portion of a nuclear fuel pencil housing or a nuclear fuel assembly guide tube. The zirconium alloy contains 0.8-1.8 wt. % of niobium, 0.2-0.6 wt. % of tin and 0.02-0.4 wt. % of iron, and has a carbon content of 30-180 ppm, a silicon content of 10-120 ppm and an oxygen content of 600-1800 ppm. The tube may be used when recrystallized or stress relieved.

  • Patent number: 5909105
Abstract: In an apparatus for control of controller equipment for damping power oscillations in a power line, the controller equipment is serially connected between a first connection point and a second connection point in the power line in an electric network for alternating current. The controller equipment is adapted to serially generate in the power line, dependent on a control order, a damping voltage for damping power oscillations in the power line. Controlling equipment receives sensed quantities of the power network and forms a phase deviation dependent on these quantities. The phase deviation is the difference between a phase angle of a first voltage at the first connection point and a phase angle of a second voltage at the second connection point. The controlling equipment forms the control order dependent on the time rate of change of a function of the phase deviation.

  • Patent number: 5887045
Abstract: A tube of zirconium-based alloy for constituting all or a portion of a cladding or guide tube for a nuclear fuel assembly. The tube is made of an alloy containing, by weight, 1.0-1.7% of tin, 0.55-0.80% of iron, 0.20-0.60% total of chromium and/or vanadium, and 0.10-0.18% of oxygen, with 50-200 ppm of carbon and 50-120 ppm of silicon. The alloy further contains only zirconium and unavoidable impurities, and it is completely recrystallized.

  • Patent number: 5882514
Abstract: An apparatus for magnetically treating a fluid comprising a magnetic cartridge arranged within a shell to define a fluid passage between the inlet and the outlet of the shell and having components for subjecting fluid in the passage to both turbulence and magnetic forces. The magnetic cartridge comprises magnetic discs and may define either or both a central passage and an annular passage through the shell. The annular passage may be further defined by a spiral coil for accelerating the fluid, and the coil and the surface of the cartridge may be made of catalytic metals for enhancing the fuel treatment.

  • Patent number: 5852642
Abstract: The apparatus is for internal inspection of a guide tube of a nuclear fuel assembly and measurement of deformations of a zone of smaller diameter in a terminal portion of the tube. The apparatus has a stick whose distal portion presents, in succession, starting from a distal end of the stick-shaped means, a guiding swelling having an easy fit in the zone of smaller diameter and two projections. The first projection carries two sets of diametrically opposite strain sensors provided with conductors linking them to a proximal end of the stick. A sleeve slides in a running portion of the guide tube above the zone of smaller diameter and slides over the stick. The sleeve and said stick-shaped means have mutually cooperating abutments for limiting displacement of the sleeve towards the distal portion to a position where the sleeve surrounds the stick.
