  • Patent number: 8210393
Abstract: A tissue dispensing device for use with a standard tissue carton is formed as a helical coil spring that is highly stretchy and has a top coil that is fastened around a dispenser aperture in a top surface of the tissue carton with the remainder of the helical coil spring inserted into a space between the top surface of the tissue carton and top of the stack of tissues within the carton with a bottom coil thereof resting on top of the stack of tissues. The helical coil spring forms an open circular space within its coils under gravity that provides a vertically-extending support structure for supporting a tissue next to be dispensed from the tissue stack in a vertical standing position with a leading part thereof extending through a membrane opening of the dispenser aperture of the tissue carton to enable a user to grasp the leading part to withdraw the next tissue to be dispensed.

  • Patent number: 8171943
Abstract: A cosmetic hair assembly has a shaped piece of wig netting or mesh holding a plurality of cosmetic hairs attached to a correspondingly shaped layer of biomimetic microstructure adhesive (BMA) with tiny synthetic seta for adhesion to human skin. The wig netting is dimensioned slightly larger than the BMA layer to leave a slight overhanging part to facilitate removal from the skin by peeling back the overhanging part. A comb with peeler in the form of hooked portions can be used to peel back the wig netting. In another embodiment, an individual cosmetic hair assembly has a hair shaft attached to a substrate portion attached to a BMA layer, wherein the substrate's edges provide engagement surfaces to facilitate removal by peeling back the BMA layer. An applicator in the form of a thin water-soluble transfer sheet can hold a number of cosmetic hair assemblies until they are ready to be applied.

  • Patent number: 8084873
Abstract: A wave energy conversion device that employs a submerged horizontally-aligned structure provided with a central opening formed in a horizontally extending surface, focuses wave induced water-particle motion, resulting in a flow into and away from the central opening, and a turbine is mounted in the central opening to be driven by this flow of water. Preferably the operation of this device occurs in a structural submerged depth of less than one-half wavelength of waves in the region. In a preferred embodiment, the flow through the central opening is bidirectional, and a self-rectifying turbine is used for unidirectional rotation. In an alternative embodiment, unidirectional check valves are used to direct water flow to a unidirectional turbine. Guide vanes are used to direct the flow inward towards the opening and can also be used to induce swirl in the flow field. When constructed axisymmetrically, the device can generate power from waves coming from any direction.

  • Patent number: 8061050
Abstract: A hydrostatic sensor device and method is provided for detecting changes in elevation in pipes, boreholes, and tunnels below ground. A pressure transducer for sensing differential changes in fluid pressure is provided at one end of an extensible hose or other flexible conduit, while the other end is maintained in an equalizer tank at a reference atmospheric pressure at a given elevation. As one end of the system is moved along a grade, pressure changes at the transducer end relative to the reference pressure at the equalizer end are measured corresponding to elevation changes and are recorded against a distance scale, thus providing an accurate profile of the line surveyed.

  • Patent number: 8047240
Abstract: An implement for mechanically filling multiple sandbags at a time is used on a loader bucket of loader-type equipment. The implement has a planar surface in which a plurality of filler apertures are formed in a plurality of rows evenly spaced over its surface area. Each filler aperture has a tensioner ring around the aperture for holding a drawstring held in a sleeve around an open end of the sandbag. A trigger mechanism is movable to a locked position in which the drawstring of the sandbag is pulled tight so that the open end of the sandbag is held in place on the tensioner ring, to an unlocked position in which the trigger mechanism lifts the drawstring off the tensioner ring to allow the sandbag filled with filler material to pull on and cinch the open end of the sandbag closed, and to a release position in which the cinched sandbag is released to the ground.

Abstract: A sliding device for sliding on the ground down a sloped or inclined surface (grass, dirt, sand, synthetic turf, etc.) has an upper deck and a slide mechanism mounted below and in parallel with the upper deck. The slide mechanism has a slide base of an elongated planar member with opposite radiused ends, and an endless anti-friction belt entrained to slide around the slide base. A pair of outboard side rails is mounted on opposite transverse sides of the slide base extending longitudinally. Each side rail has a plurality of mounting cutouts in a row spaced along the length thereof for mounting a plurality of wheels on the outboard side of the side rail for making turns. The wheels are preferably mounted with rubber inserts in the cutouts to allow for slight deflection of the wheels upward and rearward for better tracking in a turn. The device may be used for sliding down a hill like a body board, boogie board, surfboard, sled, ski, or skateboard.

  • Patent number: 8013690
Abstract: An electronically tuned, absorptive, low-loss notch filter with high RF power handling capability is obtained using a four-port quadrature hybrid coupler connected to a matched pair of band pass resonator devices and resistive terminations. The notch filter design uses series-only tuning elements for the band pass resonator devices to raise the RF power handling of the band pass resonators far above conventional techniques while also being tunable at high speeds. The notch filter architecture and method can be used for interference cancellation in a wide range of wireless technologies, such as cellular phone, wireless routers, hand-held radios, satellite communications, and any other environments where there are a number of wireless technologies in close signal proximity.

  • Patent number: 7997582
Abstract: An audio game system and method playable with a website server having an online connection on a network such as the Internet to a plurality of computers for respective participants employs a website enabled to receive from each participant's computer a music file entry selected in response to a game question or challenge issued by the website and determining an ordering by time of response of a first-in-time music file entry and sending it for audio playback on the participants' computers as a winning entry to the game question or challenge. Preferably, a participant's time-of-response is measured by a client applet on each participant's computer, and sent with the music file entry to the website server to enable the server to determine at least a first-in-time response accurately despite differences in bandwidth and connection speeds of the participants' computers.
