  • Patent number: 6618953
Abstract: A leveling assembly for setting a vertical prop is comprised of an inclined surface setting member 20 and a horizontal surface forming member 30. The horizontal surface forming member 30 has a horizontal surface 32 to be adjusted to a horizontal position and an opposite first adjusting surface 31 that is not parallel to horizontal surface 32. The inclined surface setting member 20 has a setting surface 21 facing a slope inclined surface 11 and an opposite second adjusting surface 22 facing the first adjusting surface 31 which is not parallel to the setting surface 21. The horizontal surface forming member 30 and the inclined surface setting member 20 are placed on top or each other, and the horizontal surface 32 is adjusted to the horizontal position relative to the slope inclined surface 11 by rotating the members relative to each other to change the degree angle between the horizontal surface 32 and the setting surface 21.

  • Patent number: 6564380
Abstract: An Internet-based video feed management system controls, manages, and efficiently administers the commercial distribution of live video feeds from on-site video cameras as well as other sources of video feeds to production companies at other locations. The system employs a network of local video-propagation servers located in different localities for receiving the video feeds from the different source locations, and a master authorization server for receiving and granting requests via Internet from requesting parties for access to any of the video feeds transmitted to the video-propagation servers. The master server issues an access code to the requesting party and establishing a unique publishing point for the requested video feed from the video-propagation server handling the feed. The on-site video cameras can supply live video feeds to the requesting parties, or the video feeds can be transmitted to a video-propagation server for storage and later re-transmission.

  • Patent number: 6564249
Abstract: A real-time electronic messaging system, and related method, employs a remote client device with a handwriting client component that sets up a graphical data capture area in the device visual interface and employs a graphical input device for allowing a sender to input a handwritten or handdrawn message. The handwriting client component captures the handwritten or handdrawn input, converts it to an electronic message, and sends it online to a recipient. The remote client device is connected online via a network to a real-time messaging server which sends the message to the remote client device for the recipient. In preferred versions, the remote client device can be a wireless PDA, always-on pager or messaging device, or mobile phone with SMS or EMS service.

  • Patent number: 6550549
Abstract: A mechanism for breaking off and retaining a core sample of a drill drilled into a ground substrate has an outer drill tube and an inner core break-off tube sleeved inside the drill tube. The break-off tube breaks off and retains the core sample by a varying geometric relationship of inner and outer diameters with the drill tube. The inside diameter (ID) of the drill tube is offset by a given amount with respect to its outer diameter (OD). Similarly, the outside diameter (OD) of the break-off tube is offset by the same amount with respect to its inner diameter (ID). When the break-off tube and drill tube are in one rotational alignment, the two offsets cancel each other such that the drill can operate the two tubes together in alignment with the drill axis. When the tubes are rotated 180 degrees to another positional alignment, the two offsets add together causing the core sample in the break-off tube to be displaced from the drill axis and applying shear forces to break off the core sample.

  • Patent number: 6536571
Abstract: A split locking sprag is used as a locking element between an inner race portion and an outer race portion which are moved or driven relative to each other, and has a release linkage that allows the sprag halves to be moved relative to each other to change the combined dimensions of the sprag halves and allow their displacement out of engagement with the inner and outer races. The sprag is divided into two or more sections that pivot about a main pivot pin between locked and unlocked positions. A linkage and tripper mechanism allows the sprag sections to be unlocked in a controlled manner by applying a small external force to the tripper. Alternatively, the sprag can be configured in any manner that allows their combined dimensions to be changed when triggered to release a torque while under load.

  • Patent number: 6477755
Abstract: A gear burnishing system has a pre-checking station for determining an amount of burnishing processing needed by the gear to be burnished, and a gear burnishing station for performing the burnishing operation on the gear according to parameters set by the pre-checking station. In a preferred embodiment, the pre-checking station determines the condition of the gear within one of a plurality of pre-set ranges for the burnishing operation. In this manner, appropriate gear burnishing parameters can be applied depending on the actual condition of the gear.

  • Patent number: 6424410
Abstract: A 3D navigation system employs a complementary pair of emitter/detector units, one worn on a part of a user's body (e.g., the head) and the other mounted in a stationary position on a display monitor facing the user. Each unit has an array of photovoltaic (PV) cells centered on a normal axis and an infrared diode for emitting a light beam on the normal axis. Each photodetectors array receives the infrared beam from the other unit and provides output signals representing the light intensities of the received beam on the PV cells. The PV cell response signals of the complementary units are used together to calculate the position and angular orientation of the user-worn unit relative to the stationary unit. The position and angle values are used by a software device driver installed on a computer to control 3D navigation functions of the associated application program on the computer.

  • Patent number: 6412526
Abstract: A device for maintaining ingredients separately within a container, of the type having a removable container cap applied on a neck with a central opening, has a sub-container body mounted in the container neck which is formed with a proximate end having screw threads which can be engaged with internal screw threads in the container neck for holding them securely together to allow the ingredients to be shaken out of the sub-container body and mixed with fluid in the container. The sub-container body can have inner divider walls forming multiple compartments with respective orifices for dispensing ingredients selectively from the compartments. The sub-container body may be sealed to the underside of the cap with a sealing film, or seated on the neck rim and held by the cap. In one version, the proximate end of the sub-container body has a protruding shape with inclined walls for guiding it into the neck opening.

  • Patent number: 6415307
Abstract: A computerized information display system extracts text data, lists of keywords, story rankings in order of story importance, and image maps identifying the location of stories from an input of publication files from a publisher. The system can generate a simultaneous display of a page image in which a story appears side-by-side with the text for the story when a particular story is selected, in order to allow a viewer can read the text while referring to the page image for visual cues about the text passage. The viewer can select a story from a displayed list of stories ranked in order of importance relative to other stories appearing on a page. The story rankings are derived based upon comparing one or more story importance indicators: location of the story on the page; size of type font of a headline associated with the story; size of type font associated with the story text; and size of text content for the story.

  • Patent number: 6363978
Abstract: A device for maintaining ingredients separately within a bottle container of the type having a removable container cap has a sub-container body formed with squeezable plastic outer walls and inner divider walls forming multiple compartments having respective orifices for dispensing the ingredients contained therein. Each compartment can be separately opened (by removing a sealing element) and its ingredient can be dispensed into the container by squeezing. A can container having a fixed can top and pull tab, has a one or more sub-container vessels held in exterior well(s) recessed in the surface of the container top, and held in place by and protected by the pull tab. When the pull tab is removed and the tab opening is exposed, the sub-container vessel(s) can be removed from the exterior well(s) to dispense their separate ingredients into the container.
