  • Patent number: 8282545
Abstract: An intra-corporeal surgical retractor for holding tissues and organs in place is provided, including a sealed container, made from a flexible material, having an interior containing a granular substance and a fluid. At least one tube may be provided with one end attached to the container in communication with the interior of the container and the other end connected to a suction mechanism. When the fluid is evacuated from the container, the container constricts around the granular substance and becomes relatively rigid. An absorbent sleeve or layer may be provided surrounding the container. The granular substance may be provided as loose fill or as a layer over at least a portion of the inner wall. Alternatively, the inner walls of the container may be provided with a very rough surface. Further, the outer surface of the bottom of the pouch is enhanced frictionally.

  • Patent number: 8201685
Abstract: A hanger packaging system that includes a plurality of hangers having at least one projection extending from their main bodies The hangers are grouped together such that their respective projections are aligned with one another. A shrink-wrap sleeve is applied over the group of hangers. The projections are covered by the shrink-wrap and they act as a catch for trapping the same This prevents the shrink-wrap from retreating and slipping off the hanger. The hangers also have engagement means for temporarily connecting to one another. This allows for hangers to be handled as unitary groups during production.

  • Patent number: 8199997
Abstract: A method and system for constructing a digital image of a three-dimensional biological specimen that displays diagnostically important information—substantially to the exclusion of unimportant information. The system de-enhances features in a cellular specimen which are not diagnostically important and enhances those which are. The system selects the sharpest pixel for each pixel location from among a stack of image slices and copies them into a composite image.

  • Patent number: 8100533
Abstract: A pattern VEP system for screening for glaucoma and other optic nerve related diseases/deficiencies. The system combines high contrast and low contrast testing. The low contrast testing allows for highly sensitive glaucoma testing and the high contrast allows for a sensitive test of the central vision. The system also includes a narrowly tailored method of rejecting corrupted data allowing the system to selectively salvage useful portions of a signal. The system also provides a method of data modeling to locate the N75-P100-N135 complex in a waveform and determine if it falls within the normal range.

  • Patent number: 8092786
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a decorative appliqué and the appliqué itself are disclosed. At least two formulations of high viscosity decorative liquid such as liquid nail enamel are provided and heated. A layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive material is applied onto a substrate, and a layer of the formulations are applied adjacent each other atop the layer of adhesive material on the substrate. The two formulations are preferably of different colors and are preferably confined to separate portions of the appliqué. In one fingernail-shaped embodiment, a small crescent-shaped section contains one formulation, and the remainder contains another formulation. A score or perforation is made between the two sections to facilitate application as a “French manicure”. Double-ended of such appliqués are preferably provided with side handling tabs to facilitate handling of the appliqués and enable use of both ends of the same appliqué.

  • Patent number: 8083354
Abstract: A method for determining a likelihood of a visual deficit in a subject uses a simultaneously multi-temporal visual test. At least two visual patterns are simultaneously displayed to the subject. Each pattern reverses in contrast or color at a different display frequency, and each pattern is displayed to a different region of the subject's visual field. Electrical activity of the brain of the subject is captured and sampled, and one or more frequency components are resolved from the resulting signal, where each frequency component corresponds to a different display frequency. The method then involves determining from the frequency components, optionally by comparison between the eyes, a measurement of a likelihood that a visual deficit exists in a particular area.

  • Patent number: 8077245
Abstract: An imaging system/camera consisting of multiple nano-sized optical elements arranged in an array format with more than one pixel per optical element will have a higher resolution than each element would be capable of individually, since each element being at a different point gathers slightly different overlapping information. Hence by processing such information one can obtain a clear image. Furthermore multiple information from sectors of an array of sensors can be processed to obtain 3-D, stereotypic and panoramic imaging and may be connected to each other allowing seeing around obstacles as well as enabling full 3-D tracking and/or metric determination of an unknown object. Color/spectroscopic imaging can be achieved by utilizing equally sized lenses and multi-wavelength sensing layers below the lenses. However, color/spectroscopic imaging and/or spectroscopy can be achieved by taking advantage of unique optical properties of nano-scaled lenses accepting various wavelengths below their diffraction limits.

  • Patent number: 8061363
Abstract: A dry nail tip appliqué system for applying nail enamel to a nail tip. The nail tip appliqué comprises two distinct sections, a first section for coating the entire surface of a finger nail and a second section for applying dry nail polish to a nail tip. The two sections occupy distinct areas of an appliqué and each contains a handling tab. The nail polish material of the two sections are not contiguous with each other. This allows for a convenient and neat removal of the sections and for the application of the same.

  • Patent number: 8061364
Abstract: A nail appliqué product for applying dry nail polish to a fingernail. The appliqué has two ends—each of which is functionally useful for coating a fingernail. The two ends are each differently sized so that with each inventive appliqué a user is presented with two different choices of sizes to match to her particular fingernail. In one preferred embodiment, a buffer section also is provided to ensure that the functional and aesthetic integrity is preserved when the appliqué is removed from its backing.
