  • Patent number: 6627452
Abstract: The invention relates to medicine, specifically, to methods for drug preparations screening, more specifically, to choosing a drug and its optimal dose to treat a particular patient. It is suggested to choose a drug preparation basing on the results of culturing of whole heparinized patient's blood in the presence of aqueous solutions of drugs to be compared, to analyze the ratio of —SH and —SS groups in the cellular fraction of patient's blood after culturing, and to choose the drug that makes the greatest value of the given ratio. The method allows decreasing the screening time down to a few hours and is useful in treatment of viral, cancerous, autoimmune, and other diseases.

  • Patent number: 6605216
Abstract: A compact, rapid upflow deep media filter for removing suspended solids from a liquid flow, which includes: a filter casing having a liquid inlet port, a liquid outlet port, and a filter bed composed of a volume of granular filter media and located between the inlet port and the outlet port; and a screen, selectably movable between a first operative position and a second operative position within the filter casing, whereat in the first operative position the screen maintains the filter bed in a packed state so as to permit filtration therethrough of a liquid flow from the inlet port to the outlet port, and whereat in the second operative position the screen does not maintain the filter bed in a packed state such that in the presence of a liquid flow from the inlet port to the outlet port the volume of filter media expands so as to enable separation therefrom of suspended solids accumulated during filtration of the liquid flow therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6557311
Abstract: An extender piece is disclosed for use in connection with conventional wall molding. The conventional molding includes opposing legs that define a longitudinal channel for electrical cables and wires. The extender is positioned next to the outer edge of one of the legs of the molding. Included at the outer end of the extender are a support wall and a rib defining a receiving channel. By this means, the cover shield for the molding can have one end secured in the receiving groove on one of the legs of the molding and have its other edge secured within the retaining groove of the extender. By this means, a larger size cover shield can be easily fitted on to the molding, thereby quickly and efficiently increasing the effective size of the longitudinal channel for storing cabling and wiring.

  • Patent number: 6501873
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for generating L-band light source and an optical signal amplifier, specifically, relates to an apparatus for generating L-band light source by increasing amplification gain against an L-band light to execute a stable resonating operation, and to an optical amplifier which amplifies L-band light signal efficiently. That is, it is possible to use the output light of the first optical fiber amplifier 10 as a pumping light of the second optical fiber amplifier 20 by connecting the first optical fiber amplifier 10 for supplying a maximum amplification gain against an input light having a wavelength of 1530 nm to 1560 nm with the second optical fiber amplifier 20 for supplying a maximum amplification gain against an input light having a wavelength of 1570 nm to 1610 nm in series, thus securing a satisfied amplification gain against a L-band light and to generate a desirable light source.

  • Patent number: 6471715
Abstract: The present invention relates to a suture tightening wound closure device for use on mammals including humans. This device is comprising a smooth suture (to be sewn across an open wound through the skin and underlying tissue) and a suture loop tension means (for closing the wound). This tension means is by grasping one end of the suture, and pulling back its second end, forming a tensioned suture loop, enclosing the wound. Specifically, the device of the present invention is characterized by the tension means having a manual control mechanism (for pulling or releasing said second end). The smooth suture according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention is a suture band, which is flexible for bending along it's length and is resistant to bending along it's width. The device of the present invention also relates to embodiments having in addition a pair of suture supporting skin reinforcing means.

  • Patent number: 6402043
Abstract: The method for adjusting the temperature set point of a HVAC unit and activating and deactivating the HVAC unit utilizes one sensor to periodically determine the thermostat activity in a controlled environment and a second sensor to measure the temperature of a transfer medium output from said HVAC system. A microprocessor receives, stores and processes information from the two sensors and is connected to and controls the HVAC unit. The first sensor records thermostat activity for the controlled environment at set intervals over a defined time period and they are stored in the microprocessor. An actual HVAC demand model for said controlled environment is created by the microprocessor, based on said recorded thermostat activity. The actual HVAC demand model is compared to an ideal HVAC demand model and a temperature change factor is calculated. Then, the optimum temperature set point for said HVAC unit is determined, based on said temperature change factor.
