Abstract: A medical implement dispensing and disposal system is configured for mounting within an interior of an enclosure having a first opening for receiving soiled medical implements and a second opening for dispensing medical implements. The system comprises a dispensing chamber configured to be substantially enclosed within the interior of the enclosure and removed from the interior of the enclosure. The dispensing chamber is configured to contain medical implements and has an access opening for passage of medical implements from the dispensing chamber. The access opening is positioned for alignment with the second opening of the enclosure to facilitate passage of medical implements from the enclosure. The system further comprises a disposal chamber configured to be substantially enclosed within the interior of the enclosure adjacent the dispensing chamber and removed from the interior of the enclosure.

Abstract: Featured is a vascular access device such as an IV catheter device including a housing, a tubular member, a seal member, a compression member, and a securing mechanism. The housing includes a proximal and distal portion and a chamber that extends between the proximal and distal housings. The tubular member is coupled to the housing distal portion so it is fluidly coupled to the chamber. The seal member is disposed within the chamber and the securing mechanism secures the seal member distal end to the housing proximal portion so the seal member is sealingly and compressibly retained between a chamber proximal end and the securing mechanism. Such a seal member also forms a septum, which is compressed by the compression member to prevent seepage upon removal of a stylet.

Abstract: A medical implement dispenser and disposal system is provided. The medical implement dispenser and disposal system comprises an enclosure having a body portion. A dispensing chamber within the body portion is configured to contain medical implements. A collection chamber within the body portion above the dispensing chamber is configured to collect soiled medical implements. The body portion defines an access opening positioned for passage of medical implements from the dispensing chamber and an inlet opening positioned for passage of soiled medical implements into the collection chamber, wherein the access opening is oriented in a forward facing direction and the inlet opening is also oriented in the forward facing direction. A barrier is positioned within the body portion to separate the dispensing chamber from the collection chamber. The barrier limits the passage of soiled medical implements from the collection chamber to the dispensing chamber.
