  • Patent number: 4484528
Abstract: A covered railway hopper car includes side walls comprising upper arcuate side sheet and lower flat inclined side sheet portions. The upper edge of the flat side sheet is bent to form a longeron which extends intermediate the height of the side wall and which is attached adjacent the lower edge of the arcuate side wall. A side sill extends longitudinally on the exterior of the flat side sheet to form, together with the longeron, reinforcement for the side walls. The car also includes an end structure comprising a vertical plate extending upwardly into support of the end slope walls of the car at a location intermediate the length of the end slope walls and a vertical support of the interior of the wall above the plate to distribute forces directly from the center plate of the car to the roof at a location spaced from the vertical end walls of the car.

  • Patent number: 4478139
Abstract: A beverage making appliance operable either automatically or as a pour-in beverage maker. A cold water basin is located over a hot water tank. Cold water tube extends down into the hot water tank from a drain opening in the bottom of the basin whereby cold water discharges into the lower portion of the hot water tank and displaces an equal quantity of hot water through a siphon tube for discharge through a spray head onto the contents in a brew funnel positioned beneath the spray head. In the automatic mode, cold water is delivered to the cold water basin through a cold water conduit connected with a supply of cold water under pressure. The cold water conduit has a flow control valve and a timer-controlled solenoid valve whereby a predetermined volume of cold water may be repetitively delivered on each actuation of the timer. The discharge end of the cold water conduit is pointed downwardly directly into the drain opening in the basin and upper end of the cold water tube.

  • Patent number: 4476775
Abstract: A cold water pour-in beverage brewer having a generally C-shaped body with upper and lower leg portions extending forwardly from an upright interconnecting leg portion. The body houses an inverted L-shaped receptacle formed by an elongated shallow cold water basin from adjacent one end of which a relatively deep hot water tank depends. The basin sets in the top of the upper leg portion and has an out-turned flange on its top edge which rests on an in-turned flange on the top opening in the body. A cover fits the basin and rests thereon in raised relationship to provide a vent path therebetween. The cover has a pour-in opening adjacent the front of the brewer. The hot water tank is housed mainly within the upright leg portion. A removable funnel is supported underneath upper leg portion. Beverage from the funnel falls into a beaker on a heater on the lower leg portion.

  • Patent number: 4464981
Abstract: A beverage making appliance operable automatically or manually, and also providing a hot water faucet. The appliance has a cold water basin located over a hot water tank with a cold water tube extending down into the hot water tank from a basin drain opening whereby cold water discharges into the lower portion of the hot water tank and displaces hot water either through a faucet, or a spray head onto the contents of a brew funnel. When operated in its automatic mode, cold water is delivered to the basin through a conduit connected with a supply of cold water under pressure. The conduit has both flow control and solenoid valves whereby a predetermined volume of cold water is delivered on each actuation of a timer. A level control circuit, together with a water level sensing probe disposed within the hot water tank, also actuates the solenoid valve to maintain a predetermined water level in the tank as hot water is drawn through the faucet.

  • Patent number: 4460214
Abstract: A side extension for increasing the volumetric capacity of a vehicle body includes an elongate wall, a first flange extending longitudinally of the wall and bent inwardly of the body from the wall along a bottom edge of the wall and at a sloped incline to the wall, and a second flange bent from the edge of the first flange and extending backward toward the wall. The second flange is fastened to a flange on the vehicle body which extends inwardly of the body. The first and second flanges substantially define a "V" in cross section increasing the strength of the side extension walls, maximizing the capacity of the vehicle body and preventing retention of material carried by the vehicle body at the junction between the side extensions and the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4457800
Abstract: Adhesives and coatings, especially two-compartment epoxy laminating adhesives, are prepared so as to be flame-resistant in the so-called part B or polyamide component thereof by including in that compartment a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent together with an adduct of a polyamide and an aromatic hydroxy or epoxy compound. By this approach, the amine is tied up and is rendered resistant to premature reaction with the chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent within the part B component, which premature reaction would lead to the formation of undesirable crystals within the part B component and reduce its pot life. When the part B component is blended with an epoxy-containing art B component, the polyamine adduct gradually disassociates in order to free the polyamine to catalyze setting of the two-component system, particularly the epoxy resin of the part A component.

  • Patent number: 4458198
Abstract: A fault indicator for use in conjunction with components of a power distribution system contained within a protective enclosure includes a magnetic test point on the exterior surface of the enclosure for indicating the occurrence of a fault in associated circuits of the system. The fault indicator includes a circuit module mounted on a conventional test-point provided on one of the system components, and a magnetic indicator module mounted on the wall of the enclosure. The indicator module includes a magnetizable element which extends through the wall of the housing to provide a magnetic test point. Upon occurrence of a fault in the system, circuitry within the indicator module energizes a first winding in the indicator module to establish a magnetic state of a first polarity at the test point. Upon restoration of power, a reset circuit energizes a second winding to establish a magnetic state of opposite polarity at the test point.

  • Patent number: 4456873
Abstract: A fault indicator for indicating the occurrence of a fault current in an electrical conductor includes a core assembly which attaches a circuit module to a monitored conductor and provides a concentrated magnetic flux indicative of the current level in the conductor. A magnetic reed switch in the circuit module responds to the magnetic flux in the core assembly to condition an indicator in a remote indicator module to a fault-indicating state in the event of a fault. To facilitate installation and removal of the circuit module from the conductor, the core assembly is formed by a plurality of laminations secured together and arranged in a generally rectangular configuration with their ends juxtaposed along one side thereof and joined with magnetically conductive interlocking coupling members.
