    Abstract: A system and method is provided for inserting messages, and in particular, commercial information or advertisements, into a wireless mobile communication. The messages are targeted to the subscriber of the basis of: the location of the terminal at the time of the wireless mobile communication; demographic and personal preference data pertaining to the subscriber; responses made to the messages previously provided to the subscriber; or the historical movement patterns of the subscriber. In yet another alternative embodiment, the subscriber is queried at the conclusion to select one of several options. Based on the subscriber's response, the system may provide additional information relating to the targeted message; insert another message; forward a voce mail, e-mail, of facsimile copy of the targeted message to the subscriber; or establish a direct link with a representative of the sponsor of the message, such as a telemarketer.

    Abstract: A physics based model of the absorption of light by histological stains used to measure the amount of one or more stains at locations within tissue is disclosed. The subsequent analysis results in several improvements in the detection of tissue on a slide, improvements to autofocus algorithms so focusing during image acquisition is confined to tissue, improvements to image segmentation and identification of tissued and its features, improvements to the identification of stain where multiple stains are used, and improvements to the quantification of the extent of staining. The invention relates to the application of these improvements to stain detection and quantification to provide for objective comparison between tissues and closer correlation between the presentations of such features and concurrent patterns of gene or protein expression.

    Abstract: A continuous swimming apparatus is provided which minimizes power requirements by providing higher water velocity through that portion of the swimming area in which the swimmer is located, and lower velocity in unused portions of the tank. This water velocity gradient is produced by an arrangement of turning vanes in the recirculation paths of the apparatus. The water velocity may be varied by adjusting hydraulic fluid flow to hydraulic motors which drive propellers for circulating the water through the apparatus.
