  • Patent number: 5630622
Abstract: This invention utilizes a cast corner member (20) as a support base for the load bearing members (14) of a roll over protection structure (10). The cast corner member (20) has an end portion (34) comprising at least one gusset (40) which telescopically engages a tubular member (14). The gusset (40) has a tapered configuration which defines a free end portion (36) that has a reduced cross-sectional area and is positioned within the tubular member (14) in slightly spaced relationship to at least one of the side walls of the tubular member (14). When the end portion (34) of the corner member (20) is telescopically received within the tubular member (14), a groove is formed to receive a weld bead (22) which secures the two members together.

  • Patent number: 5551913
Abstract: The combined instrument mounting and air conducting housing provides both the instrument mounting and air conduction and distribution in a single compact housing. The housing includes an upper central instrument mounting portion. The housing further includes a generally Y-shaped portion for conduction of air through the housing. The Y-shaped portion includes a lower portion defining an air inlet chamber and an upper portion defining a pair of laterally spaced air distribution channels. The laterally spaced distribution channels are individually disposed at respective laterally outer edges of the upper central instrument mounting portion. The upper ends of the air distribution channels are joined in fluid communication by a connection air channel defined by the upper portion of the housing. Suitable discharge openings and adjustable air discharge vents are provided to direct air in the appropriate directions within the cab.

  • Patent number: 5507360
Abstract: In certain machines, such as construction equipment, it is desirable to provide a supplemental fluid supply for hydraulic steering systems to maintain sufficient fluid flow should a failure occur in the primary fluid supply. It is also desirable to provide retarding or dynamic braking to help control speed of the machine when operating downhill with a heavy load. A ground driven pump is provided to supply fluid to a selector valve for selectively directing the output of the ground driven pump to a steering system or a dynamic braking system. The selector valve is responsive to pressure in the steering system to direct flow from the ground driven pump to the steering system when the pressure drops below a predetermined level. The operator may selectively direct flow from the ground driven pump to the dynamic braking system when dynamic braking is needed.

  • Patent number: 5498066
Abstract: Trucks which haul waste and fine, loose materials which are top loading through an open top need a cover to retain the material such as during travel. A full length cover, when raised for loading, may adversely affect the stability of the truck. An articulated cover includes a forward portion pivotally connected to the truck hauling body and a rearward portion pivotally connected to the forward portion. When the forward portion is raised the rearward portion folds downward against and parallel to the forward portion. This reduces the height of the raised cover to approximately one-half of the cover total length. Tie members are connected to the rear portion of the cover and to the hauling body and engage guide members on the cover to cause the rearward portion to unfold to an extended position when the forward portion is pivoted toward a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5492098
Abstract: An apparatus for variably controlling the fuel flow characteristics of a hydraulically-actuated injector during an injection cycle. The apparatus includes variable control of actuating fluid pressure and a spill control apparatus associated with the plunger and barrel assembly of the injector. The apparatus can control the initial rate of fuel injection and also provide continuous or split injection throughout the load and speed range of an engine. Performance is controlled by the geometry of the spill control apparatus along with the variably controlled pressure of the actuating fluid supplied to the injector. The apparatus helps reduce engine noise and emissions.

  • Patent number: 5279205
Abstract: Axial piston fluid translating units commonly experience undesirable shaft deflections and barrel tilting during operation. A fluid translating unit includes a barrel plate interposed the end of a barrel and a porting surface defined within a housing thereof. The barrel plate is axially spaced from an end of the barrel and is in face sealing engagement with the porting surface. The barrel plate defines a plurality of fluid ports, each communicating between one of a plurality of barrel cylinder bores and the porting surface. In one aspect a plurality of counterbores are provided in the barrel in surrounding relation to the fluid ports. A plurality of seal rings having a sealing end defining an annular seal face of a predetermined width for face sealing engagement with the barrel plate. The seal rings are each disposed in one of the counterbores in circumferential sealing relation of a predetermined length which is no greater than the width of the sealing face.

  • Patent number: 5214994
Abstract: The design and construction of seals located between a cylinder barrel and a barrel plate rotatable therewith for axial piston fluid translating units have caused an increase in overall unit size, increased stiffness between the barrel and barrel plate and an increase in manufacturing cost and complexity. The present invention overcomes these problems by providing an axially compact, combined circumferential and axial face seal means. The seal means includes an annular seal ring having a sealing end and a biasing end with the sealing end defining an annular seal face of a predetermined width. A biasing means is attached to the biasing end of the seal ring and includes a spring ring having a generally flat base plate with a plurality of resilient fingers angularly extending therefrom. The axially compact structure of the seal means of this invention provides the required flexibility between the barrel and barrel plate while reducing overall unit size, and cost and complexity of manufacturing.
