  • Patent number: 6621253
Abstract: A multiple power factor audio amplifier with a power draw up to a maximum amplifier power draw flowing through at least two power flow circuits with at least one circuit including a power factor corrector electrically connected between the amplifier and input terminals. One embodiment including a power factor corrector sized to provide a first output less than the maximum amplifier power draw of the amplifier and a high output power factor bypass adapted to provide a second output to supplement the first output when the amplifier power draw exceeds the first output. Also described are methods for controlling the amplifier demand power factor including adjusting the draw of a first portion of the direct current power at a first level to improve the power factor of an input demand at the rectifier to provide a first part of the demanded amplifier power; and transferring a second portion of the direct current power without power factor correction to provide a second part of the demanded amplifier power.

  • Patent number: 6619951
Abstract: A burner apparatus includes a mounting head having a fuel inlet opening defined in the mounting head for receiving combustion air and fuel gas through the opening. An inner support structure is attached to the mounting head. The inner support structure defines an interior zone communicated with the fuel inlet opening of the head. An exterior layer of flexible woven heat resistant material is received about the inner support structure and defines an exterior flame attachment surface. The mounting head may include a radial opening defined therethrough. An igniter is located outside of the mounting head adjacent the radial opening so that the igniter is proximally spaced from a combustion zone surround the burner apparatus. The burner apparatus may include a plurality of foraminous back pressure plates located in the interior zone distal of the igniter for balancing the pressure of the fuel gas/combustion air mixture along the length of the burner.

  • Patent number: 6616839
Abstract: The present invention discloses a portable water treatment facility. The water treatment facility has housing on castors. The housing houses the water treatment member. The housing has various doors which are locked to make the housing tamper resistant. The housing has an external sampling station which allows a technician at any point in time to ensure that all of the liquids being provided by the water treatment member meet specifications. This system has a modular water treatment member consisting of various filters, tanks, and pumps which are attached to one another by short fluid conduits with quick disconnects. The system is computer monitored, capable of remoting data offsite and producing an audit trail capturing system operational parameters and quality of water produced over time.

  • Patent number: 6617435
Abstract: A method for extracting proteins from the intercellular space of plants is provided. The method is applicable to the large scale isolation of many active proteins of interest synthesized by plant cells. The method may be used commercially to recover recombinantly produced proteins from plant hosts thereby making the large scale use of plants as sources for recombinant protein production feasible.

  • Patent number: 6611169
Abstract: An audio power amplifier including a rail voltage detection circuit connected to a feedback generator and a rail voltage, the detection circuit is adapted to detect an overvoltage or undervoltage condition and control the feedback signal to a regulated switching power supply to adjust the rail voltage. Additional protection is provided through thermal stress detection and output fault detection to control the feedback signal and protect the audio power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 6609532
Abstract: A rotational two valve disconnect apparatus including a first rotational valve, a second rotational valve, and a rotational disconnect structure connected to the valves. The valves on the disconnect structure are constructed so that the disconnect can be engaged to flowably connect the first and second valve and disconnected to separably disconnect the first and second valves. The structure is further designed so that a single rotational movement will engage the disconnect structure and open the first and second valves or an opposite rotational movement may close the first and second valves and then disengage the disconnect structure. The preferred embodiment utilizes a single rotational axis for both the first and second valves and the disconnect structure. A further design advantage includes radial ports to allow for reduced operating requirement for the valve in high pressure environments.

  • Patent number: 6605769
Abstract: A portable device is used for recording, editing, and replaying musical sounds generated by a musical instrument external to the device. The musical sounds are converted from analog to digital format, compressed for minimum storage usage, and stored in a digital storage medium. The stored signals are filed according to an indexing scheme that allows selection and retrieval of selected portions of the musical sounds. The selected portions are retrieved from storage, decompressed, converted back to analog signals, and output to a sound generating device. The operation of the device is controlled by application software and operating system software.

  • Patent number: 6601050
Abstract: Electronic data is classified using adaptive focused replicator networks (AFRNs). AFRNs are sets of array elements, each array element being trainable in order to replicate a predetermined sub-group of data. Unknown data is inputted into each and every array element in an AFRN array and then replicated by each element array. A comparison is made for each array element to determine the accuracy of each replication. If only one array element successfully replicates the unknown data, then the unknown data is classified in accordance with the corresponding predetermined sub-group of data.

  • Patent number: 6570653
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for sensing the presence of bright white paper on a conveyor of a paper sorting system. The conveyor is constantly illuminated with ultraviolet light. When bright white paper is present in the inspection zone of the conveyor, it will re-radiate fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light. Periodically, the inspection zone of the conveyor is illuminated with a second light source in the visible light spectrum. Light is collected from the inspection zone of the conveyor, including reflected light from the secondary source and including emitted fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light falling on bright white paper. Periodically a microprocessor associated with the sensor senses reflected light from the second source to determine whether any object if present on the conveyor. The microprocessor then senses the level of fluorescent light energy being emitted from any object on the conveyor.
