Patent number: 5310431Abstract: An iron-based, corrosion-resistant, precipitation strengthened, martensitic steel essentially free of delta ferrite for use at high temperatures has a nominal composition of 0.05-0.1 C, 8-12 Cr, 1-5 Co, 0.5-2.0 Ni, 0.41-1.0 Mo, 0.1-0.5 Ti, and the balance iron. This steel is different from other corrosion-resistant martensitic steels because its microstructure consists of a uniform dispersion of fine particles, which are very closely spaced, and which do not coarsen at high temperatures. Thus at high temperatures this steel combines the excellent creep strength of dispersion-strengthened steels, with the ease of fabricability afforded by precipitation hardenable steels.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1992Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Robert F. Patent number: 5297432Abstract: A gas sampling system utilizing a pair of parallel sonic orifices. One of the orifices is connected to a source of filtered, heated samples. The second, larger orifice is connected to a source of dilution gas. A vacuum pump maintains a substantial vacuum behind the orifices, thus assuring critical flow therethrough. The sample and diffusion gas are mixed behind the orifices and transported under partial vacuum for analysis. The dew point of the sample is affected by both the ratio of the diameter of orifices and the degree of vacuum transporting the gas mixture. As such, the dew point can be varied indefinitely by any reasonable combination of orifice ratio and vacuum pump strength.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1991Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: United Sciences, Inc.Inventors: John E. Traina, Richard Myers

Patent number: 5263322Abstract: A conduit extends from a platform or a fixed structure above a deep cavity filled with deep liquid which contains dissolved gases. Sufficient liquid is drawn from the top of the conduit to cause gas containing deep liquid to enter the lower end of the conduit and release dissolved gas thereby forming a foam which causes the bulk density of the foam to fall. The change in bulk density causes the foam to move upward through the conduit pushing the foam to higher heights in an effort to reach pressure equilibrium inside and outside the conduit at a level of incipient foaming. The energy of the moving foam is used to drive a turbine or otherwise provide useful energy.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1992Date of Patent: November 23, 1993Inventor: Alberto E. Molini

Patent number: 5241915Abstract: An apparatus and method to improve pulverizer operation and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from furnaces which burn pulverized coal from at least one pulverizer. A duct type burner burns a fuel in the primary air which heats the primary air supplied to the pulverizers. The combustion increases the primary air temperature and improves the drying of the coal, thus improving the pulverizer throughput and/or the fineness of the pulverized coal. Operation of the duct burner also reduces the oxygen in the primary air. The reduction in oxygen reduces the propensity of the coal to ignite in the pulverizers and cause fires or even explosions. The reduced oxygen in the primary air also reduces NO.sub.x formation.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1992Date of Patent: September 7, 1993Assignee: Consolidated Natural Gas Service Company, Inc.Inventors: Bernard P.
