  • Patent number: 7348292
Abstract: A mixed metal oxide, which may be an orthorhombic phase material, is improved as a catalyst for the production of unsaturated carboxylic acids, or unsaturated nitriles, from alkanes, or mixtures of alkanes and alkenes, by: contacting with a liquid contact member selected from the group consisting of organic acids, alcohols, inorganic acids and hydrogen peroxide to form a contact mixture; recovering insoluble material from the contact mixture; calcining the recovered insoluble material in a non-oxidizing atmosphere; admixing the calcined recovered insoluble material with (i) at least one promoter element or compound thereof and (ii) at least one solvent for the at least one promoter element or compound thereof; removing the at least one solvent to form a catalyst precursor; and calcining the catalyst precursor.

  • Patent number: 7157520
Abstract: A powdery linear polymer having a narrow particle size distribution with little dusting and excellent in anti-blocking property is recovered from a latex of a linear polymer containing a large proportion (35–75 wt. %) of soft polymer (S) component through a two-step coagulation process including a first (moderate coagulation) step causing 70–98 wt. % of the coagulation. The linear polymer in the latex has a multilayer structure comprising a linear polymer (S) having a glass transition temperature below 40° C. and a linear polymer (H) having a higher glass transition temperature disposed in totally at least two layers and containing 35–75 wt. %, as a whole, of the linear polymer (S) with the proviso that the linear polymer (S) cannot be contained in excess of 30 wt. % in an outermost layer of the multilayer structure.

  • Patent number: 7128085
Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention provides a rupture disk assembly having a rupture disk and a rupture disk holder. The rupture disk holder has a first annular member downstream of the rupture disk, a second annular member upstream of the rupture disk, and an optional third annular member upstream of the second annular member. An outer peripheral portion of the rupture disk is sandwiched between the first and second annular members; and, if a third annular member is present, (a) the second annular member is sandwiched between the outer peripheral portion of the rupture disk and the third annular member, and (b) the third annular member includes a fluid port aimed at the rupture disk. However, if the third annular member is not present, the second annular member includes a fluid port aimed at the rupture disk.

  • Patent number: 7087147
Abstract: The application of an electric current to catalysts useful for the vapor phase oxidation of hydrocarbons allows for processes for obtaining enhanced catalytic processing of a given feed material with a given catalyst, processes allowing the ready change-over from one product of a given feed stream to another product of that feed stream without the need to change catalyst, and processes allowing the ready change over from one feed stream to another feed stream with the concomitant change over from one product to another product without the need to change catalyst.

  • Patent number: 7063827
Abstract: A conical reactor head for use in chemical processes or other systems is provided. The reactor head includes a robust internal insulator to boost efficiency while maintaining safety by allowing the reactor head to self-radiate at high temperatures. The reactor head also includes a plurality of support lugs to protect its bottom flange from scratches or other damage when the reactor head is set on the ground. The reactor head is adapted to connect to a catalyst-containing barrel which is specially designed to facilitate easy installation and removal of catalysts or other equipment from outside the barrel. The reactor may be coupled with a rotation vane to induce laminar flow at the inlet of the reactor to increase reactor efficiency and prolong catalyst life.
