  • Patent number: 6401538
Abstract: A method is provided for analyzing suspended particulate and liquid medium in a fluid stream by transmitting acoustic signals into the fluid, detecting scattered acoustic energy, and determining a parameter related to the density and compressibility of the fluid. In one embodiment, the fluid analysis tool comprises two transmitting transducers intermittently emitting acoustic signals, and two receiving transducers being differently azimuthally positioned with respect to the transmitters. The ratio of the amplitude of scattered signals measured by the two receivers as a result of emission from the first and second transmitters are used to calculate the parameter. In another embodiment, a tool comprising one transmitter and at least three receivers with azimuthal angles in both forward and backward scattering regions with respect to the incident wave is disclosed. The scattering signal amplitudes normalized by the amplitude from one of the receivers is used to identify and monitor the system.

  • Patent number: 5342387
Abstract: A stent comprising a coil including a plurality of arcuate sections that alternate directions around a central axis, each arcuate section including a pair of curved turns joined by a cusp, and the cusps of adjacent arcuate sections intermeshing and defining at least one region of overlap, which in turn describes a helix around and along the length of the coil. In the preferred embodiment, there are two regions of overlap, which together describe a double helix. In another preferred embodiment, the stent is bifurcated so as to support a branched vessel or the like.

  • Patent number: 5333971
Abstract: A bulkhead member for assembling a bulkhead is disclosed, comprising a body having two opposed faces and first and second substantially parallel edges. The first edge includes an integral split socket and the second edge includes an integral connecting bead. At least one of the opposed faces includes a planar surface, and one of the socket and bead is mounted adjacent the planar surface. The connecting bead is angled with respect to the planar surface, and the gap in the split socket is correlatively angled, such that when the bead of the first bulkhead member is lockingly received in the socket of another like bulkhead member, the planar surfaces of the two bulkhead members may be substantially coplanar, and the connecting bead and socket of the two bulkhead members are offset from the common plane of the planar surfaces of the two bulkhead members.

  • Patent number: 5298167
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for separating a first fluid from a second fluid wherein the first fluid is lighter than the second fluid and the first fluid is immiscible with the second fluid. A first portion of the first fluid is separated from a mixture containing the first and second fluids in a gravity separator. The remaining mixture flows to a hydrocyclone where a second portion of the first fluid is separated from the remaining mixture. The underflow from the hydrocyclone which includes most of the second fluid and the remaining portion of the first fluid flows to a second gravity separator without substantial pressure reduction to avoid shearing of the droplets of the first fluid. In the second gravity separator a third portion of the first fluid is removed.

  • Patent number: 5235787
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for constructing hexagonal structures. In forming a right hexagonal prism structure, three rectangular sections are constructed, each having two parallel end pieces of a preselected height and width, and having a length equal to the width of the end pieces times the square root of three. The sections are stacked and nested such that the edges of their end pieces touch the edges of adjacent end pieces, resulting in the rectangular sections being rotated 60.degree. with respect to one another around an axis. Adjacent end pieces are then connected together, with the six end pieces defining the sides of a right hexagonal prism. In forming a hexagonal surface structure, three rectangular units are constructed, each having two parallel end members of a preselected width, and having a length equal to the width of the end members times the square root of three. The units are stacked and nested in a manner similar to that for the right hexagonal prism structures.
