Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the NO.sub.x content of hot stack (exhaust) gas produced by a furnace burning a fossil fuel, comprising recycling part of said NO.sub.x -containing stack gas, in admixture with cold fresh air, back into the combustion chamber of the furnace.

Abstract: Stabilized liquid preparations for oxidation hair dyes are provided. The oxidation hair dyes comprise oxidation hair dye precursors and an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic carrier, containing (A) from 5 to 20% by weight of fatty acid water-soluble soap and (B) from 0.5 to 10% by weight of a water-soluble cationic polymer. The oxidation hair dyes (containing a soap and cationic polymer which tend towards inhomogeneity) are stabilized by the addition of from 5 to 30% by weight of a compound selected from the group consisting of: (C) aliphatic or alicyclic C.sub.9 -C.sub.44 dicarboxylic acid water-soluble salts; and (D) amines corresponding to the following general formula ##STR1## .

Abstract: The invention relates to alkaline cleaners containing two components A and B, component A being a strongly alkaline solution comprising mostly alkali metal hydroxides and employed in an excess, component B being a concentrate comprising an aqueous silicic acid dispersion containing anionic, nonionic or amphoteric tensides, builder substances, stabilizers and optionally inorganic mineral acids, complexing agents and/or preservatives. Component B contains, as an active ingredient, adjusted to a pH in the range of from 1 to 11, a silicic acid dispersion obtained in situ by treating an alkali metal silicate solution with a mineral acid or a gas reacting acidically in aqueous solution. The dispersions also contain stabilizers, tensides and builder substances. If desired, additional agents conventionally contained in cleaning concentrates may also be added.

Abstract: Stabilized polyvinyl chloride molding compositions contain, per 100 parts by weight of polymer, 0.02 to 5 parts by weight compounds of Formula I, ##STR1## in which R represents an alkyl group with 1 to 19 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group with 5 or 6 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, an alkylphenyl group with 7 to 11 carbon atoms or an MOOC--CH.sub.2 group, n represents the numbers 0 and 1, and M represents sodium or potassium.Heat stabilizers which are metal soaps, aromatic metal carboxylates, metal phenolates and organotin compounds as well as crystalline sodium aluminosilicate are also incorporated.

Abstract: A cosmetic preparation for the treatment of seborrhea containing an antiseborrheically effective amount of a p-alkoxy or p-alkylbenzyloxy benzoic acid ester having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is (i) a branched alkyl group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms,(ii) an alkylbenzyl group wherein the alkyl moiety has from 3 to 9 carbon atoms, or(iii) R.sup.2 --(O--Y).sub.n wherein R.sup.2 is an alkyl group havig from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, or an alkylbenzyl group wherein the alkyl moiety has from 3 to 9 carbon atoms; Y is CHR.sup.3 --CHR.sup.4 ; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 independently represent a hydrogen or a methyl, and n=1 or 2;and R.sup.5 is an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a methoxy alkyl, an ethoxyalkyl, or a hydroxyalkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and further containing conventional vehicles and additives; the process for reducing mammalian sebum production by using the above cosmetic preparation and the p-alkoxy and p-alkylbenzyloxy benzoic acid esters themselves.

Abstract: A cosmetic preparation for the treatment of seborrhea containing an antiseborrheically effective amount of a p-alkoxy or p-alkybenzyloxy benzoic acid or salt thereof having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is either an alkyl group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, or an alkybenzyl group wherein the alkyl moiety has from 3 to 9 carbon atoms, and X is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal and ammonium, and further containing conventional vehicles and additives; the process for reducing mammalian sebum production by using the above cosmetic preparation; and certain p-alkoxy and p-alkylbenzyloxy benzoic acids or salts thereof of the above formula.

Abstract: An apparatus for the continuous production of clear sodium silicate solution with an SiO.sub.2 :Na.sub.2 O weight ratio of 1-2.8:1 by fusing sand in aqueous sodium hydroxide using a pressure-sealed circulating suspension reactor having an upper portion comprising a partially tapered gravity thickener and a lower portion comprising a cylindrical jet loop mixer. The jet loop mixer has a concentric cylindrical insertion tube suspended therein, and a recirculating power jet nozzle is upwardly directed through the bottom of the jet loop mixer so that its stream is directed into the lower end of the insertion tube, causing a continuous circulation flow.

Abstract: A method for absorbing bodily secretions while hindering the generation of odors and growth of microbes comprising applying a fibrous mass having copper cations bound through selected anions, preferably carboxymethyl, the amount of chemically bound copper being between 0.1 and 3% by weight. The fibrous mass can be in the form of a catamenial device, bandage, diaper, shoe liner, or the like.

Abstract: An adhesive composition and a method for its use in bonding rigid PVC elements. The adhesive composition comprises: (1) a first dissolved PVC polymer having a K-value of about 58 .+-. and a second dissolved PVC polymer having a K-value of about 45 to about 52; (2) at least one cyclic organic solvent; and (3) at least one non-cyclic organic solvent.

Abstract: Phosphonic acid esters obtained by reacting organophosphonic acids corresponding to the general formula R--PO.sub.3 H.sub.2, in which R is preferably an alkyl group containing from 6 to 18 C-atoms, with from 1 to 10 moles and preferably with from 1 to 5 moles of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide. These esters are useful as additives to hair treatment preparations, preferably to shampoos based on anionic surfactants and, preferably, ampholytic or betaine surfactants for improving the wet combability of hair. They are added in amounts between 0.1 to 10% by weight to hair treatment preparations, and between 1 and 5% by weight to shampoos.

Abstract: Preservatives for aluminum surfaces in the form of a polymer dispersion based on an acid-group-containing acrylate copolymer which is cross-linked with divalent metal salts, which contains plasticizers and surfactants, and which, optionally, contains oxidized polyethylene and/or a copolymer of styrene and maleic acid anhydride. The preservatives are suitable for the preserving aftertreatment of aluminum, particularly electrolytically oxidized aluminum.
