  • Patent number: 5623799
Abstract: A device and apparatus for aligning exterior faces of tiles of irregular thickness in which elongated alignment grooves are formed in edges of the tiles spaced apart from the exterior faces by a constant setback distance and a front tongue of a spacer shaped like an extruded cross is inserted into the groove in a first tile and then the corresponding groove in a second tile is mounted over the projecting rear tongue. The upper and lower tabs of the spacer define the separation between adjacent tiles and the front and rear tongues maintain the exterior faces of the tiles in alignment.

  • Patent number: 5618249
Abstract: An upper body exercise device comprising a base (10) on which two adjustably resistant recoilers (20) are mounted is contained in a waist pouch (30). Two extension members (40) extend outwardly and downwardly from the base (10) and pulleys (50) are attached to the outer ends (44) of the extension members. Cords (60) from the recoilers (20) are threaded through the pulleys (50) and handles (70) are provided at the ends. The extension members (40) displace and direct frictional force created by the recoilers (20), and the pouch (30) makes the device easy to put on and take off. The recoilers (20) preferably provide adjustably resistant force against tension applied to the cords (60) and a slight restoring force sufficient to recoil the cords (600 when tension is released. This avoids safety problems with other mechanisms that provide a restoring force equal to the displacing force.

  • Patent number: 5522368
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing fuel economy of a diesel fuel engine in which an aerator (40) bubbles air through diesel fuel (F) in a diesel fuel tank (T) to generate diesel fuel fumes in the ullage (U). In a turbocharged diesel engine, the fumes are directed by a valve (60) to fume injectors 86 and injected just before the turbo charger fan (32). In a normally aspirated engine, the fumes are directed by a valve (160) to the intake manifold (124).

  • Patent number: 5502920
Abstract: A retrofittable insecticide distribution system comprising an above ground horizontal pipe (20) having a plurality of vertical pipes (30) penetrating into the ground. Fluid absorbing means (56) in housings (50) are provided around the ends of horizontal and vertical members and communicate with the horizontal pipes or a vertical pipe. Insecticide can be introduced into the system either by pumping or by being placed in an elevated reservoir (90) with gravity providing the pumping force. The vertical pipes in the ground can be provided with a variety of distribution means, including simple holes, a downwardly oriented sprinkler head (42) or a distribution ball (44) having a plurality of slots (46) filled with plastic beads (48).

  • Patent number: 5431400
Abstract: A puzzle (20) comprising an array of identical tiles (30), each of which is in the shape of an equilateral polygon and each of which is spaced parallel and spaced apart from adjacent sides of adjacent tiles to define a web of intersecting channels (40) that intesect each other at integer multiples of a web angle. A set of movable grout pieces is provided, each of which comprises at least one elongated segment equal in length to the side of the tiles and has a width approximately equal to the width of the channels (40). Preferably, the set of grout pieces consists of all possible different configurations of between one and the number of sides of the polygons of grout segments, with the segments of the multi-segment grout pieces joined only at their ends at integer multiples of the web angle.

  • Patent number: 5415455
Abstract: A chair with a fabric sling backrest and seat which suspend under tension when the chair is expanded from stretcher and support tubes. The chair collapses by unlocking studs--mounted on the chair's stretcher tubes--from receiver slots, and rotating the stretcher tubes ninety degrees into one plane. The back support tubes also pivot down into the same plane. The chair then easily folds into a compact carrying size. The chair fits into a carrying bag, or alternatively, carrying straps are sewn directly onto the fabric backrest.

  • Patent number: 5357903
Abstract: A retrofittable submerged terrarium for an aquarium comprising a bottle with a horizontal passageway tube and an upwardly extending access tube with an upper end extending above the water level. Alternatively, two bottles are attached to opposite ends of a passageway tube and an upwardly extending access tube extends above the water level that is attached either to the passageway tube or to one of the bottles. Preferably, an airway tube is provided into a bottle so that air can be circulated freely throughout the terrarium. Brackets are preferably provided to retain the apparatus near the bottom of the aquarium.

  • Patent number: 5323727
Abstract: A first elongated buoyant float (20) and a second elongated buoyant float (40) are joined by a joining member (50) to form a substantially "V"-shaped frame. A propulsion unit (60) is pivotably mounted at the apex of the frame and can be controlled through a pistol grip (70) having a trigger (72). Participants in a guided group underwater tour can hold onto handrails (24) and (44) and be provided with air through regulators (32) provided through air hoses (30). The handrails (24) and (44) are preferably zig-zag in shape. Optionally, audio communications means can be provided to the tour participants. An alternative embodiment includes a "V" shaped frame (112) having zig-zag legs (112b) with two main floats (120, 140) and two outrigger floats (114, 116) at the ends of the legs. Another alternative embodiment comprises a "U" shaped float (202) with a handrail (224) that is guided with guiding fins (212).

  • Patent number: 5291679
Abstract: A magazine with an elongated indicator member attached to the follower and projecting outside the body of the magazine so that the length of the indicator member indicates how many bullets remain in the aperture. The indicator member is provided with a series of knots at predetermined intervals so that the number of knots on the portion of the indicator member projecting outside the body of the magazine equals the number of bullets remaining in the magazine. More elaborately, each knot can correspond to a predetermined number of remaining bullets, or the knots can vary in configuration to provide a tactile code of the number of remaining bullets so that the user only needs to feel the knot closest to the magazine to determine the number of bullets remaining.
