  • Patent number: 4609826
Abstract: An energy efficient apparatus suitable for use in hot, arid climates wherein a source of water is available includes in combination; a rotating wheel member which utilizes the buoyancy of outwardly extending members and a pair of temperature sensitive devices responsive to the change in ambient temperature to cause the moment about the axis of the rotating wheel member to increase, thereby aiding in the rotation of the rotating wheel member providing continuous output energy. The increase of the mechanical moment is caused by the mechanical change in position of an outwardly extending member and provides a portion of the energy obtained thereby to a spring and escapement mechanism which further couples additional energy to support the rotation of the rotating wheel member.

  • Patent number: 4415943
Abstract: An equipment protector and energy saving apparatus includes transient protection as well as under voltage protection by preventing the reduced voltage from being applied to motors and other apparatuses that may be damaged because of insufficient voltage being applied thereto. Provision is incorporated to protect for momentary low voltage transients and turn-on prevention, if the line voltage should be reduced below a predetermined value. Provision is also made for correcting for a small increase in line voltage which may occur when the operating equipment is removed from the line. A timing device may be incorporated therein in order to remove the protected equipment from the line for predetermined intervals of time.

  • Patent number: 4413517
Abstract: Apparatus and method for measuring the thickness of a test piece by obtaining the acoustic velocity of the test piece where an ultrasonic wave is refracted into the test piece at a first point and the wave travels substantially parallel to the surface and the transit time to a second point where the wave is refracted out of the test piece is measured. The distance between the first and second points is known and the ultrasonic wave is initially transmitted into a member of different acoustic velocity than the test piece to produce the subsurface wave in the test piece.

  • Patent number: 4390425
Abstract: A high pressure liquid filter vessel fabricated of non-metallic materials and used for the filtering of liquid in a permanent installation provides for a simplified method of replacing the filter bag and includes a removable cover which displaces a relatively large volume of liquid. Removal of the cover from the filter housing reduces the liquid level within the housing to a level below the lip of the filter bag, making it easier to grab the lip thereof, and remove the bag without coming into contact with the liquid being filtered. The bracket used for retaining the cover on the filter housing prevents distortion thereof and makes the filter ideally suitable for high pressure filter applications where corrosive liquids are involved.
