  • Patent number: 5770159
Abstract: The invention relates to a pipette for dispensing successive volumes of liquid by repeated action on a pusher (22). A drive lever (26) is provided to drive a pushrod (15) and a piston rod (5) downwards only. The lever (26) extends transversely to the longitudinal axis (X) of the thrust rod (15) and it includes a hole (27) through which the pushrod (15) passes with a small amount of clearance. The pusher (22) can act on one end of the lever (26) to cause it to tilt relative to the pushrod (15) and then to drive the pushrod downwards by wedging, together with the piston rod (5), and to expel a predetermined volume of liquid. The lever (26) is mounted to rotate about a tilt axis (Y) that intersects the axis of the hole (27) perpendicularly substantially halfway along the hole.

  • Patent number: 5722354
Abstract: A new and improved heat recovery steam generating apparatus for extracting heat from a hot gas stream, comprises a vertically extending tube bank having upper and lower headers at opposite ends. Two pairs of external, gravity force, support columns are spaced upstream and downstream of the tube bank and a top support structure is mounted at the upper end of the columns for supporting the tube bank in downwardly hanging relation from the upper header. A pair of permanent internal trusses are supportively connected at the upper end to the columns and each truss has opposite edges slidably supported from a pair of columns for accommodating expansion and contraction of the tubes and for transferring and resisting lateral and shear loads, which loads are eventually transferred to a bottom structure at the lower end of the columns.

  • Patent number: 5697407
Abstract: A high speed bulk compounder system for filling upper and lower chambers of dual chamber TPN bags with fluid from source containers includes a controller for controlling the operation of peristaltic pump stations, each station being associated with one of the source containers. The controller activates the peristaltic pumps sequentially to draw fluids from certain ones of the source container so that the fluids flow through a common manifold and a lower chamber fill tubing into the lower chamber of the dual chamber bag. Once the lower chamber has been filled, another pump station is activated so that fluid is drawn from another of the source containers and flows through an upper chamber connector, through an upper chamber fill tubing and into the upper chamber of the dual chamber bag.

  • Patent number: 5692249
Abstract: A top mounted flush valve is installed from inside a flush tank and does not require access to the opposite tank wall. A valve body includes an annular chamber receiving a radially enlarged head portion of a flexible resilient seal member. A draw ring is fixed to the remote end of a barrel portion of the seal member. A draw collar has a flange bearing against the body and a cylindrical portion threaded to the draw ring. Rotation of the draw collar outwardly collapses the seal barrel portion, and a seal bead on the seal member head is forced against the inner tank surface. A wall of the body isolates the draw collar from the seal barrel, and the enlarged head portion is wedged into the annular chamber to prevent rotation of the seal member.

  • Patent number: 5682499
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining and rebuilding directory information for compressed data on a direct access storage device are provided. A directory of DASD compressed data is stored in the storage controller and directory information is periodically written to the DASD for compressed data written to the DASD. A drive write count (DWC) of each write operation to the DASD is maintained. A number of sectors in a compressed data page is identified for the drive write count. A sector sequence number is identified for each of the number of sectors in the compressed data page. A span for the compressed data page is identified for the drive write count. A page offset is identified for the identified number of sectors in the compressed data page. A deallocation status of a first page of an extent is identified. The extent is a block of sequential compressed data pages.
