A wireless network can therefore include multiple APs, each of which will automatically choose a channel such that channel usage is optimized. Furthermore, APs can perform automatic power adjustment so that multiple APs can operate on the same channel while minimizing interference with each other. Wireless stations are load balanced across APs so that user bandwidth is optimized. A movement detection scheme provides seamless roaming of stations between APs.
Abstract: A scaleable high-capacity network comprises several non-uniform composite-star networks interconnected by a number of lateral uniform composite-star networks, thus forming an irregular two-dimensional network. Each non-uniform composite star network comprises electronic edge nodes, possibly of significantly different capacities, interconnected by optical core nodes. The optical core nodes are not connected to each other, and each may be configured differently and have a different reach index, where the reach index of a core node is the number of edge nodes to which the core node directly connects. The selection of a route through a core node within a non-uniform composite-star network is based on a composite index determined according to the reach index of the core node and the propagation delay along the route.

Abstract: A clock synchronization backup mechanism is disclosed for maintaining clock synchronization during periods of degraded synchronization. The clock synchronization backup mechanism includes a jitter buffer having a fill value at a given sample time which is compared with a threshold. When the jitter buffer fill value exceeds the threshold, a non-normal condition is registered and the local clock frequency is set to a combination of a long-term frequency setting plus a threshold sensitive frequency adjustment. The clock synchronization backup mechanism is particularly useful for overcoming residual errors accumulated due to temperature change, oscillator degradation, and a variety of other system perturbations problematical for clock synchronization mechanisms known in the art.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for low latency loss-free burst switching. Burst schedules are initiated by controllers of bufferless core nodes and distributed to respective edge nodes. In a composite-star network, the burst schedules are initiated by any of a plurality of bufferless core nodes and distributed to respective edge nodes. Burst formation takes place at source nodes and a burst size is determined according to an allocated bitrate of a burst stream to which the burst belongs. An allocated bitrate of a burst stream may be modified according to observed usage of scheduled bursts of a burst stream. A method of control-burst exchange between each of a plurality of edge nodes and each of a plurality of bufferless core nodes enables burst scheduling, time coordination, and loss-free burst switching. Both the payload bursts and control bursts are carried by optical channels connecting the edge nodes and the core nodes.

Abstract: A system, device, and method for bridging network traffic between a first communication interface and a second communication interface uses a pre-computed bridged routing table to enable a bridge to be established quickly. The bridged routing table is pre-computed for the pair of communication interfaces by searching a main routing table for all main routing table entries having the first communication interface as an outgoing interface and creating, for each such main routing table entry, a corresponding bridged routing table entry including all outgoing interfaces from the main routing table entry and additionally including the second (bridged) communication interface as an outgoing interface. Abstract: An apparatus and method for echo cancellation that detects and tracks the active regions of the echo channel impulse response rather than the entire echo channel impulse response and uses this sparse model to cancel the echo component of the received signal. Two sets of filter coefficients are used, one to remove and track the active regions and one to detect the active regions.
Abstract: A data storage device that may be connected directly to a power integrated network includes a network interface configured to communicate with the power integrated network and a memory configured to store data. Abstract: A multilink trunk from a client device in a communication network is split between two aggregation devices such that each aggregation device is connected to at least one link of the multilink trunk. The aggregation devices work in conjunction to appear to the client device as a single device connected to the client device over the multilink trunk. The aggregation devices transmit identical bridge protocol data units to the client device over their respective links of the multilink trunk. The aggregation devices exchange operational information and data packets over inter-device communication ports. Abstract: Managing link bandwidth in a communication network having multiple routing devices is described. A connection path is requested across the network to establish communication from a sending process to a receiving device. Each device on the connection path is connected to a next device on the connection path by a link having an associated bandwidth. A connection admission control process is performed for at least one routing device on the connection path. A sending process reservation is determined as a function of sending process characteristics and QoS, network state, and admission policy. The application-aware reservation factor influences an amount of link bandwidth that is reserved for the sending process.
