  • Patent number: 5499705
Abstract: A friction pad for use in a friction element used in a friction engagement device such as a brake or clutch, The friction element includes a carrier and a plurality of friction pads circumferentially spaced about the carrier, The pads may have a modular construction whereby pad portions are releasably secured to support portions. The pads may also be releasably secured to the carrier. Various friction pad constructions are contemplated including constructions in which the secondary support portion includes a membrane and the primary support portion includes a cylindrical member extending between the membrane and the friction pads. A continuous friction pad ring may be substituted for the discrete friction pads, The carrier may be provided with locator pins in the pad receiving bores to orient the pads properly. The carrier may have cuts and grooves formed therein to provide a flexible or even beam mounted support for the friction pads.

  • Patent number: 5497969
Abstract: Releasable locking apparatus for locking together adjacent elongated members such as a support post (10) and a drawbar (16) of a vehicle. In one arrangement, first and second mountings in the form of saddles (20 and 28) are adapted to saddle respective elongated support post and drawbar for non-rotational connection thereto. The saddles are connected to respective support post and towbar by a common pin (21) about which they may rotate when disconnected. Overlapped portions (23 and 29) of the saddles abut to provide a non-rotational connection. Releasable security type locking means attached to pin aperture (25) restrains axial movement along the pin. The support post is movable and releasably lockable from a vertically extending support position to a stowed position extending alongside the drawbar.

  • Patent number: 5490777
Abstract: Disclosed is a fuel gas supply adjuster which allows free adjustment of the flame length and enables stable flame length adjustment, for example in a gas lighter. In the fuel gas supply adjuster of the invention, a membrane filter which can provide a minimum necessary fuel retaining volume is used as the filter so as to prevent the fuel from being fed excessively at the initial ignition. Moreover, in order to incorporate the membrane filter in a fully sealed structure with a minimum necessary space being secured therein, one surface of the membrane filter is brought into close contact with that surface of an elastic member which has a conical recess, and the other surface thereof with the pressing face of a pressing member, while the other face of the elastic member with the fitting face of a base member, and the side face thereof with the side sealing face of the base member, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5489155
Abstract: A one piece hydrodynamic bearing which replicates the function and performance of more costly tilt pad bearings. The pads are supported on a single thin web for pivoting on a support structure which can include one or more beam-like members. The support structure preferably includes a primary support portion, a secondary support portion and a tertiary support portion. The beams allow deflection of the pad by either deflecting or twisting in a torsional mode. The bearing pad support structure may include portions which are fluid dampened. The bearing may be made self lubricating through the provision of a lubricant absorbing and releasing material in the spaces between the bearing pads or within the support structure. The bearings may be made of a wide variety of materials including, plastics, ceramics, powdered metals, composites and metals.
