  • Patent number: 4904402
Abstract: Sulfurized isobutylene is reacted with a mild oxidizing agent under conditions sufficient to effect the appearance of new infra red frequency bands at 1300 cm.sup.-1 and 1030 cm.sup.-1 indicative of the formation of sulfoxides and sulfones and a liquid oxidized sulfurized isobutylene product soluble in a lubricating composition is recovered. The resulting purified product imparts improved bearing life when incorporated into lubricant compositions.

  • Patent number: 4898782
Abstract: A semi-continuouds, multi-stage polymerization process is provided for synthesizing a heat-sealable multi-layered composite particle latex. The multi-layered composite latex particles of this invention provide excellent oxygen and vapor barrier properties without hindering the desired surface properties, including high heat-sealing strength, low minimal seal temperature, excellent machinability, i.e. low blocking and low coefficient of friction. The latex particles of the present invention are formed as three-layered composite particles having an acrylic ester seed layer composed of a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate. The latex particles have an intermediate core layer composed of a terpolymer having a high vinylidene chloride concentration, the other comonomers of the core layer include methyl acrylate and methacrylic acid.

  • Patent number: 4893498
Abstract: A liquid leak detector for above-ground tanks includes an upright standpipe connected to the tank so that the standpipe can be filled with liquid from the tank to the same level as the liquid in the tank. A pressure transducer is connected between the bottom of the tank and the bottom of the standpipe to measure the difference in pressure of the liquids in the tanks and standpipe. Any change in the liquid pressure at the bottom of the tank as a result of leakage from the tank will change the pressure differential on the pressure transducer. This changes the output of the transducer which can be recorded to indicate leakage from the tank.

  • Patent number: 4884438
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining certain fluid flow parameters for naturally fractured media. Specifically provided is a method and apparatus to measure the flow rate, pressure drop, fracture aperture, fluid supply temperature and sample-loading force. A naturally fractured media core sample is obtained for testing and cut into a pair of core blocks having mating fractured forces. The fracture face of the core sample prepared in this manner, yields a more representative surface for flow study, eliminating the problem arising from the fact that most fractures cut across round core samples, resulting in an unnatural, elliptical surface for evaluation. A flow cell assembly is provided to receive the pair of core blocks and secure them during the measurement operation. The flow cell assembly permits adjustment of the fracture aperture to facilitate comprehensive evaluation.

  • Patent number: 4860267
Abstract: A waste container that utilizes a clock-timer circuit to actuate an alarm to remind a user to empty the container and prepare the contents for subsequent collection. The clock-timing circuit and signalling means can be an integral part of the container or affixed to the container by an adhesive or any other suitable fastening means. A preferred apparatus comprises a waste container, an audible signalling means, a clock-timer circuit for actuation of the signalling means at a predetermined time corresponding to the interval between trash collection service pick-ups and a housing for mounting the timing circuit and signalling means within. Also furnished is a method for providing a signal to prepare waste materials for collection comprising the steps of setting a clock-timer circuit affixed to a waste container for a predetermined period of time, providing an actuation pulse upon the expiration of the period of time and generating an alarm through the use of a signalling means affixed to the waste container.
