    Abstract: A modular artillery charge system consists of two distinct solid propellant harge modules. Each module consists of a three-piece combustible cartridge case design and bi-directional center core core ignition system. The three-piece combustible cartridge case consists of a combustible case body, having an open end and a end; a cap, having a closed end and an open end; and a center tube. The closed ends of the body and the cap have a hole in the center. The center core tube is positioned longitudinally through the combustible case body, and contacts the closed ends of both the cap and the body. The bi-directional center core ignition system comprises a core igniter bag and two end igniter bags. The core igniter bag occupies the center core tube, and the end igniter bags contact the core igniter bag. The bi-directional center core ignition system may be ignited by percussion primers or a laser ignition system. The first module is used individually or in groups of two.

    Abstract: A projectile to be, fired from a non-rifled tube includes an elongated foody and a stabilizer secured to the tail end of the forebody for enhancing the projectile flight stability and for imparting spin to the projectile. The stabilizer includes a threaded member that extends integrally into a forward section, a peripheral channel and a grooved aft section. The forward section has a generally smooth cylindrical shape. The peripheral channel extends along the entire peripheral contour of the stabilizer and has a generally semi-circular cross-section, for generating an expansion wave and for directing air flow toward the grooved aft section. The grooved aft section is cylindrically shaped relative to a longitudinal axis, and has a predetermined number of identical, equally spaced, circumferentially positioned grooves which traverse the entire axial length of the aft section, and which are angled relative to the longitudinal axis. Each angled groove is defined by two substantially parallel side walls.

    Abstract: A sealed metal ammunition container for holding at least one round of ammtion. The container body is sized to hold the ammunition and has an opening at one end thereof. A metal bottom flange is fixedly attached to file container body at the one end and includes an opening therein sufficiently large to vent pressure from ignited energetic contained therein. A metal top flange is provided for attachment to the bottom flange, the top flange also having a similar opening therein. A fuse formed from a material having a melting point below the ignition temperature of the ammunition is positioned between the top flange and the bottom flange to form a meltable closure at the open end of the body. A rubber flange gasket is positioned between the bottom flange and the fuse to form a hermetic seal when compressed upon closure thereof. Equally spaced screws mount the top flange, fuse, and flange gasket to the bottom flange to form a hermetic seal.

    Abstract: A system for removing particulates, formed as metal is machined, from coog and lubricating fluid. The system has a tank filled with fluid. The bottom of the tank slopes forward. The tank receives contaminated fluid at its top rear. The contaminants are swarf (chips removed from the workpiece) and fines (which come both from the workpiece and the grinder, borer, or drill). After the swarf is removed from the contaminated fluid by a magnetic filter, only fines remain. The fluid contaminated with fines flows from back to front in the tank, passing under a baffle projecting vertically downward from the top of the tank. A whoosh plate causes the fines to settle out into the tank, while uncontaminated fluid flows over the whoosh plate and is reused. The fines collect at the tank's bottom, from where they are pumped out and mixed with the magnetically-removed swarf for removal.

In a preferred embodiment, the presence and concentration of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as chemical warfare nerve agents or certain insecticides, is determined by mixing aqueous samples with a dilute solution of n-methyl indoxyl acetate, and monitoring the formation of a fluorescent product (n-methyl indoxyl). The presence of an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor reduces the amount of fluorescent product formed in a given time period.

    Abstract: The invention relates to coating devices and methods for application of sant to ammunition. Provided is a mechanically simple and effective way of weatherproofing or coating high volumes of small caliber sabot ammunition or similar items. The coating device typically consists of a container device, which is chamber of sufficient size and volume to hold sealant, covered by an integral lid comprising a frame holding a diaphram, sealant and means for applying the sealant. The frame and the diaphram are provided with aligning holes. The holes are sized to permit the object to be coated to penetrate through the frame, and deformably penetrate through the diaphram into the chamber and contacting the sealant and means of application. The means to apply the sealant may be a sealant dip, a series of spray jets to spray the sealant, a felt stamp pad, a fluidized bed, various combinations of these or any other type of application means to uniformly coat the object.

Finally, a relay receives the driving signal and transmits an activation signal to thereby activate the remote smoke generator device.

    Abstract: The device of this invention is used to detect small quantities of liquid emical agents in certain pesticides on the basis of the heat reaction between the liquid agent and a chemical oxidant such as sodium or calcium hypochlorite. The detecting device consists of a thin film of resistance heat sensitive element on top of which porous or fibrous substrate material is mounted. This substrate is impregnated with the oxidant material. As a liquid agent contacts substrate it permeates through the substrate and reacts with the oxidant and generates heat. The output volume from the thin film resistance element increases correspondingly. The time from agent contact until this signal is observed as tested is less than one (1) second. The method is directed to the contacting of the liquid agent against the surface, wherein it permeates through the substrate and reacts with the oxidant and generates heat which change in heat is detected by the detecting device.
