Abstract: A local oscillator (LO) generator for driving a bank of mixers that provides precise phase relationship between multi-phase LO outputs comprises a shift register using slave-master-slave flip-flop elements. The LO generator can be used over a wide operating frequency range. The LO generator is suitable for driving a multi-phase LO clock input to a harmonic suppression mixer. A pattern generator produces a pattern signal and a reclocking signal that determines the frequency of the LO signals and the phase delay between the LO output phases.
Abstract: A speaker driver surround has tapered thickness to provide improved linearity of the force versus displacement response. The tapered thickness surround provides for a larger emissive piston area, thus increasing the acoustic efficiency of the transducer. The surround has an integral gasket with a groove to accept grill to cover the speaker cone.
Abstract: A speaker driver has a detachable motor and basket to allow attachment or separation of the motor assembly from the basket assembly. Two embodiments are disclosed, a thread-on detachable motor and a bolt-on detachable motor.
Abstract: A broadband digital communication network transmits a signal with a shaped power spectrum to minimize interference with devices that share the communication medium. In one embodiment using coaxial wiring, devices such as cable converters and televisions that are not part of the network share the communication medium and are exposed to the network signal. Power levels across the network band are selected to reduce interference in the non-networked devices. One area of susceptibility is the tuner of cable channel receivers, which perform mixing and down conversion of RF signals. The power spectrum profile is selected to minimize the IF and base band interference after down conversion. The spectrum can be shaped within each 6 MHz band to further minimize the interference with a TV signal. The power levels can be optimized for both peak power limitation and quantization effects.

Abstract: A wireless link provides an extension to cable television signals for a television receiver that does not have access to a coaxial cable. Analog and digital cable channels are processed and transmitted over the wireless link. Security of the signal is provided by transmitting encrypted data and decrypting at the receiving node. The conditional access encryption inherent in the data can insure communication security or encryption may be performed at the transmitting node.
Abstract: In a satellite receiving system, program channels are selected from one or more broadband signals and combined with other selected channels and transmitted from a first unit, for example an outdoor unit, to a second unit, for example a gateway, server, or set-top box, using a single cable. Channels can be selected by digitizing the broadband signal then digitally filtering to isolate the desired channels. The outputs of several LNBs can be selected and combined into one signal. Multiple set-top boxes can receive independent signals over a single cable from the outdoor unit.

Abstract: A storage/buffering system for the stocking and/or buffering of substrate and/or substrate carriers in a process environment includes a 6-axis robot. An end-effector is connected with the robot providing an additional one degree of freedom and a mechanism for grabbing and moving of substrate and/or substrate carriers. The robot is mounted in an inverted orientation to a removable service cart for easy removal of the robot to a service area in the event of breakdown. The robot receives commands from a programmable controller connected to control the robot and configured to direct the arm of the robot through a set of movements. Product is loaded in and out of the system through I/O load ports. Product is stored inside the storage/buffering system on a plurality of storage locations, each with product presence/absence detect sensor. The robot can alternatively be mounted directly to the storage system enclosure structure.
Abstract: Impedance of an unknown load is determined by applying a reference signal from a signal generator through a multi-position switch to the unknown load, a first known calibration impedance, and second known impedance, which can be an open circuit, while measuring the complex voltage developed across each load. The source impedance of the signal generator can be determined from the measurements of the known impedances, and then the unknown impedance can be calculated, using complex voltage divider relationships. The reference signal is applied at one or more frequencies of interest and is preferably a sine wave. Impedance is measured accurately at all frequencies and the limitations of prior art frequency dependant directional-coupler methods of impedance measurement are overcome. The impedance measurement device can be incorporated into a handheld device with a keypad and display.

Abstract: A digital frequency synthesizer for generating square wave signals employing a phase accumulator, triangle wave logic function, smoothing filter, and hard limiter. A triangle wave logic function simplifies the implementation of stable square wave signals.
