Abstract: A dust collecting system for belt sanders and the like which prevents dust and grit produced during the sanding of objects from entering the air which the operator breathes. The system serves as the closed base or stand for the belt sander, contains a powered air moving device, a baffle to trap larger particles of grit, a standard furnace filter to remove dust and smaller particles of grit, a control switch to start and stop the sander, a filter examination and removal plate and a cleanout plate.
Abstract: A valve for controlling the flow of a liquid under pressure and capable of flowing a maximum amount of liquid and still be shifted by a commercially available, industry standardly-accepted solenoid. My improved valve utilizes only four dynamic seals between the valve plunger and the bore through which the plunger operates to minimize breakaway force required to move the plunger from one position to another. The valve incorporates novel plunger and separator constructions wherein valves of different operating capabilities may be formed from common parts and selectively interchangeable parts.
Abstract: An electric heating element for the top panel of a cooking stove, having terminals adapted to be plugged into a terminal block carried by the stove panel, and embodying means for automatically interrupting current flow to the heating element when a cooking utensil is removed therefrom. The means for automatically interrupting the current flow comprises a weight responsive switch with at least one contact in the terminal block.
Abstract: The invention is directed to a termination for a surface unit having a flat spiralled active heating portion and a single, downward and laterally-extending terminal leg. The termination is particularly adapted for a surface unit of the type shown in U.S. Pat. No. 4,010,350, issued Mar. 1, 1977, to Donald M. Cunningham, and assigned to the assignee of this application.
Abstract: My invention relates to guide roll apparatus for use in a metal strip processing line wherein it is desirable that the longitudinal centerline of the strip remains coincident with the centerline of the processing line. My improved guide roll apparatus embodies sensing mechanism to sense the position of a longitudinal edge of the strip as it moves in the processing line, the sensing mechanism sending an electrical signal to a circuit including solenoid controlled valves which control flow of compressed air to a pair of air cylinders which are in back-to-back relation and which tilt the steering roll to compensate for deviation of the strip from its desired path.
Abstract: An electric heating element having an improved electrical termination. The heating element comprises a conventional tubular metal sheath with a heating coil embedded in granular refractory material which is contained within the sheath. Terminal pins are electrically connected to opposite ends of the heating coil and extend outwardly of opposite ends of the sheath. My improvement provides for easy and efficient connection of a power conductor to a terminal pin and includes a metal sleeve having interengagement with a respective sheath end to provide protection for the terminal connection.
Abstract: A rocker fixture for attachment to the bottom of a chair seat to provide a swivel and rocking action. The fixture comprises an upright post having its lower end received in swivel manner in the usual center socket carried by the legs of the chair. The upper end of the post is secured to a head bracket which has pivot connection with the legs of a channel, the latter being secured to a plate which is attached to the under-side of the chair seat. A bell crank lever is also pivotally connected between the legs of the channel and has one arm slidably engageable with an extension of the head bracket, and the other arm is acted upon by a spring-controlled member to urge said one arm to engagement with said bracket extension. The rocking action of the fixture works on a counter-balance principle so that weight shifting is required to tilt both to a backward position and forward from such position.
Abstract: An electric heating element of the type having a metal tubular sheath, a resistance conductor within the sheath, a terminal pin connected to an end of the resistance conductor and having an outer end projecting outwardly of the open end of the sheath, electric-insulating, heat-conducting material holding the resistance conductor and terminal pin spaced from the inner surface of the sheath; the improvement comprising a spade-type terminal on the outer end of the terminal pin, the spade-type terminal being formed as an integral part of the terminal pin by a coining die operation.

Abstract: A terminal end seal for a metal-sheathed electric immersion water heating element of a water heating tank includes a plastic sealing plug disposed within a pocket at the end of the sheath in surrounding relationship to the terminal pin and locked in sealing engagement with the sheath by inward deformation of the sheath. An electrically insulative vulcanized fibre washer is disposed in the pocket inwardly of the plug in engagement with the terminal pin and inner surface of the sheath. Without the fibre washer, it would be possible under abnormal conditions for the plastic sealing plug to fail and the sheath portion immersed within the water in the tank to fracture, allowing water to enter the sheath and flow outwardly of the then-open sheath end to cause damage. However, the fibre washer intercepts such water and swells to form a tight seal to restrict flow of water outwardly of the sheath.
