  • Patent number: 8307847
Abstract: A fast opening pressure relief valve (200) for providing pressure relief for a vessel. The valve (200) has an ejector (216) and a sleeve structure (210) in which the ejector (216) moves longitudinally. The ejector (216) is constructed of material that will expand outward slightly upon pressurization, increasing friction between staging glands (202) provided on the sleeve structure (210) and buckling glands (206) provided on the ejector (216). Also, as pressure on the ejector (216) increases, the buckling rings (206) deform slightly to release their grip on the staging glands (202) and move past them. Once the buckling rings (206) move past the staging glands (202), the pressurized ejector (216) quickly moves to its open position, i.e. opening within 2 and 3 milliseconds, thereby releasing the pressure on the vessel. The valve (200) can be reset by returning the ejector to its closed position.

  • Patent number: 8294565
Abstract: An automatic turn signal monitor and warning device for use with a vehicle such as a motorcycle which requires manual deactivation of the turn signals. The device monitors turn signal activation which initiates a timer, and the timer activates a warning signal to remind the operator to deactivate the turn signal when the turn signal remains activated beyond an adjustable time interval after initiation. The warning signal can be produced by one or more audible, visual, or tactile mechanisms. The vehicle's hazard lights do not activate the device's timer, and the device's timer resets when the vehicle's brakes are applied. The device can be retrofitted onto an existing vehicle or included as original equipment when a vehicle is manufactured.

  • Patent number: 8240585
Abstract: A dishwasher controlled garbage disposal system that momentarily activates the garbage disposal upon activation of the dishwasher to clear the dishwasher's drain route through the garbage disposal. A signal detection and transmission device functionally attached to the dishwasher detects activation of the dishwasher's water pump and sends a signal to a wall mounted control module which activates a pre-operational warning timer. This timer activates for a short time a pre-activation yellow warning light and a fluctuating warning sound. When the warning timer deactivates, a disposal timer activates for a short time a red warning light, a constantly sounding warning sound, and a relay which activates the garbage disposal. A single shot latching relay within the signal detection and transmission device is activated when the dishwasher is initially turned on to prevent the control box from activating more than once during a given wash cycle of the dishwasher.

  • Patent number: 8215524
Abstract: A mechanical device for pulling on and removing socks which does not require any excessive bending or other extraneous body movement by the user. The device is primarily comprised of a triangular shaped sock mount attached to one end of an elongated shaft that terminates on a second end in a u-shaped handle containing hand operative controls. By engaging the hand operative controls the device can secure a sock to the sock mount while the user places their foot inside the sock. Disengaging the controls allows the user to remove the device from the sock while keeping their foot inside and enables the sock mount to rotate 180 degrees to expose the stationary elevated tongue that can then be used to remove the sock from the user's foot, can be used as a shoe horn, or to place the device in a storage position.

  • Patent number: 8066562
Abstract: A method of simulating a traditional casino roulette game experience using a specially designed deck of thirty eight (38) playing cards to determine a winning number rather than via a spin of the roulette wheel. The deck includes one card for each single unique number from the roulette wheel, i.e. 00, 0, and numbers 1-36. The deck is shuffled so that the cards are drawn at random to simulate a spin of the roulette wheel. The dealer activates the shuffler to draw a card from the shuffled deck. A bar code on the drawn card is read into a computer via a scanner. Scanning the card activates the computer to provide a visual representation of a spin of the roulette wheel on a monitor located near the roulette table. The visualization shows the ball landing on the unique number of the roulette wheel dictated by the drawn card.

  • Patent number: 8054932
Abstract: A filter medium for strainers used in the emergency sump of a nuclear power plant ECCS. The filter medium is employed with double wall, concentric tube type strainer modules. The filter medium is preferably constructed of a woven or knitted stainless steel wire material and is shaped in a cylinder so that it can be inserted between two concentric strainer walls, concentric tube type strainer in such a manner that water that passes through the strainer must pass through and be filtered by the filter medium before the water can be pumped to the reactor core. The filter medium is inserted through the bottom of the strainer module and is held in place by an x-shaped retainer. The filter creates varied approach velocity of the fluid and results in non-uniform fibrous debris accumulation on the strainer, insuring acceptable strainer debris hydraulic head loss.
