Abstract: The drilling of new holes into a vehicle fender fold is avoided by providing a mud flap with a rotating clamping member. A clamping arm of the rotating clamping member is rotated from a disengaged position to an engaged position behind the fender fold, and is then drawn forwardly on the threads of an attachment bolt to clamp the fender fold between the rotating clamping member and a stationary clamping member in-molded into the mud flap. A visual indicator may be provided to show whether the rotating clamping member is behind the vehicle fender fold to which the mud flap is to be attached.
Abstract: Insulated conductors, of either the wire or multistranded cable variety, are provided with a series of markings or visual indicators along their length on their insulation jackets. The markings include cut markings to show where the conductor is to be cut and, spaced from respective ones of the cut markings by a predetermined insertion depth, insertion markings to show a correct depth of insertion into an associated electrical connector receptacle. Depending on the type of connector for which the conductor is being furnished, the markings may further include a plurality of strip markings, spaced from respective ones of the cut markings by a predetermined strip length, and/or a plurality of final insertion markings, which are spaced from respective ones of the initial insertion markings by a predetermined connector cap compression stroke.
Abstract: An electrical connector has a connector body with a bore and a cap through which a stranded insulated conductor is threaded. A ridge in the external surface of the cap engages with at least one groove in the bore to secure the conductor in place. Preferably, there are at least two such grooves in the bore at different axial positions, and the cap is axially advanced from one such groove to another one farther inside the bore to effect full physical and electrical connection. Surface pairs make up each such ridge and groove, with the area of one of the surface pairs being much greater than the other one of the surface pairs. The connector may have multiple bores and caps, and embodiments are provided for coaxial conductors.
Abstract: A vehicle floor tray is molded from a multiple extrusion thermoplastic polymer sheet such that it has high shear and tensile strength, an acceptable degree of stiffness and a high coefficient of friction on its upper surface. The floor tray design is digitally fitted to a foot well of a particular model of vehicle such that a lower surface of the tray is no more than one-half of an inch from a digitally acquired model of the foot well surface.
Abstract: A semiconductor laser device incorporates a beam control layer for reducing far field and beam divergence. Within the beam control layer, a physical property of the semiconductor material varies as a function of depth through, the beam control layer, by provision of a first sub-layer in which the property varies gradually from a first level to a second level, and a second sub-layer in which the property varies from said second level to a third level. In the preferred arrangement, the conduction band edge of the semiconductor has a V-shaped profile through the beam control layer.
Abstract: A vehicle floor tray is molded from a sheet of thermoplastic polymeric material of uniform thickness. The tray has a deep three-dimensional shape formed by a floor and at least first and second upstanding sidewalls. A reservoir portion of the floor has a general surface depressed below a general portion of the floor. Channels formed in the general portion of the floor run into the reservoir, in which is formed a plurality of baffles provided for retarding lateral movement of collected runoff and also acting as treads for the occupant's feet.
Abstract: A hanger is injection-molded in one piece from a suitable polymer. At each of a plurality of gripping locations, a stationary gripping member and a mobile gripping member are provided, each of which preferably terminate in inwardly directed article supporting fingers. For each pair of gripping members, a fastening arm is provided on one of the members while a channel is provided in the other of the gripping members. A pawl engages with an array of teeth to fasten the gripping members together and to secure e.g. a pair of vehicle floor mats therebetween.
Abstract: A transparent vehicle license plate frame has an elastomeric gasket. The frame includes a periphery and an inner side for disposal adjacent to a license plate. The elastomeric gasket is disposed on the inner side near the periphery of the frame and is injection-molded into an annular frame channel.
Abstract: A self-contained well intervention system which can be deployed from a lightweight vessel and coupled directly to a wellhead is described. The system includes valve means for providing a suitable well barrier and sealing the intervention system to allow an emergency disconnect. Within the intervention system, a tool magazine is provided which contains at least one deployable intervention tool. The intervention system also contains a tool selection and deployment means based on a winch located in close proximity to the magazine and which is operable from the surface for selecting a particular tool from the magazine and for deploying the selected tool through the intervention system and the wellhead into the well. The tool magazine has a plurality of magazine pockets each of which may have a deployable tool therein.
