  • Patent number: 4879768
Abstract: A shoulder strap pad is disclosed which is superior to prior pads or coverings because it takes advantage of the anatomical and biomechanical characteristics of the user's shoulder to provide anatomically correct support for carrying straps. This strap pad fits the shape of the shoulder, effectively raising the shoulder's profile so that there is no slope down which the strap may slide. This is accomplished by shaping the cushioning pad into a wedge or triangular shape. The strap is carried on top of this wedge and pushes down but cannot slide out. Prior pads and cushions have limited themselves to increasing the friction between strap and shoulder (or garment thereon). This frictional approach may also be used in combination with the instant invention to further prevent slipping. By making the wedge out of a cushion (whether of resilient synthetic or natural foam or of a filled cushion-like material), the carrying burden is further reduced.

  • Patent number: 4873829
Abstract: A steam power plant is shown which comprises a pressurized deaerating feed water tank, a high-pressure steam boiler, a high-pressure steam turbine, a low-pressure steam turbine, and a water-cooled, steam condenser, connected in series in a closed circuit. The condenser is maintained under a substantial pressure during operation and connected to supply feed water to the feed water tank. A steam-operated deaerator is connected to the feed water tank to remove air from the water therein. A steam jet is connected between and operable to move steam from the low-pressure turbine to the condenser. A steam jet is connected between and operable to move water from the condenser to the deaerator. A second steam jet is connected to the deaerator to provide steam to scrub the oxygen from the incoming water and permit introduction of a secondary steam source to provide heat as needed. A high-pressure, water injector is connected between and operable to move water from the feed water tank to the boiler.

  • Patent number: 4690384
Abstract: A chain link fence system has end, corner, or gate posts, each comprising a tubular metal post with a series of spaced, vertically-aligned openings along at least one side thereof. A supporting cross bar extends from one post to another and has a horizontally-positioned, apertured tonguemember at each end positioned in the top side opening of the post with the apertures oriented vertically. The end links of a chain link fence are positioned in the vertically aligned openings and a retaining rod inserted downwardly through the aperture in the tongue member and through the end links of chain link fence to secure the cross bar and the chain link fence wire to the post. A cap member covers the top of the post. The chain link fence is preferably secured to intermediate line posts by a novel retaining wire tie of a heavy bendable wire having the initial shape of a shepherd's crook and self closing at the crook end when properly installed.

  • Patent number: 4662608
Abstract: An automatic drilling control system is disclosed for a conventional drilling apparatus and rig having a drill line rolled up or fed off the drum during drilling by the engine and extending through a crown block and traveling block to a fixed point providing a dead line. The crown block and traveling block form a pulley system for supporting a drill pipe during drilling. A weight indicator gauge on the drilling console is hydraulically actuated from a pressure sensor connected to the dead line. A conventional brake drum controls the rate of feed out of the drill line to determine the tension of the dead line. A double-acting, fluid-actuated cylinder and piston connected to the brake handle positively move it to control the brake force on the drum. A three-way electric solenoid valve controls the application of pressurized fluid selectively to the piston in response to a pressure transducer in the hydraulic line from the pressure sensor.

  • Patent number: 4548585
Abstract: A mathematics teaching aid kit comprises a storage box, teachers manual, task cards, and manipulative components used to teach a mathematics program. The manipulative components comprise sets of individual thin rectangular and square plates or stair members of different colors divided into separate squares forming ten distinct shapes ranging from one square to ten composite multiple squares illustrating the numbers one to ten. The reverse side of the stair members is divided identically, but of different color or surface texture. The teaching components comprise square or rectangular tile members, some with positive numbers on one side and negative numbers on the other and others with arithmetic symbols printed on one side, and a pair of thin elongated rectangular members or number line bars, one divided into evenly spaced increments bearing positive numbers, and the other having identical increments and indicating negative numbers.
