  • Patent number: 5250100
Abstract: A solid waste recovery system processes solid wastes which would otherwise be sent to a landfill by utilizing several stages of systematically separating and processing various components of the refuse. Refuse is trucked in and dumped on a tipping floor of the recovery facility and separated into non-compostables, recyclables, and compostable materials. The non-compostables are further separated into recyclable inorganics which are recaptured as resalable items and into non-compostable organics which are further separated into hospital and clinical wastes to be incinerated or disposed of as hazardous waste, and into petroleum products to be incinerated, sent to a landfill or disposed of as hazardous waste, or recycled.

  • Patent number: 4882798
Abstract: The invention relates to a sling for lifting a disabled person and in particular to a sling for supporting the thighs of a disabled person. The sling comprises two rigid members substantially identical to one another; each rigid member having a cross section in a first longitudinal direction which is substantially constant and each rigid member including an inner surface which, in use, is closest to the disabled person, which inner surface includes a curvate portion which is curved about at least one axis parallel to said longitudinal direction, said each curvate portion defining a hollow into which, in use, the thigh of a disabled person may be placed; the rigid members being joined by a connector which allows pivotal movement of the rigid members relative to each other about an axis substantially parallel to the axis about which the curvate portion of the inner surface is curved; the sling also including means for attaching the sling to a lifting device in the region of the connector.

  • Patent number: 4648432
Abstract: An automatic bag filling machine employs a reduced pressure or a vacuum within a bag enclosing shroud to draw powdered material into either valved bags or vapor barrier bags in a series of increments to fill the bags with a relatively compacted powder. The shroud has movable liner assembly for adjustably enclosing bags of various size. A novel filling spout and a vapor barrier spout carrier by the shroud each have an expandable boot member to seal the mouth of the bag on the spout to preclude seepage of powdered material from the bag interior during filling. A filter tank connected to the machine reduces the discharge of powdered material into the surrounding atmosphere, and allows waste material to be reclaimed. Valves for controlling vacuum imparted to the shroud chamber, venting the bag interior, powdered material flow, and relief to atmospheric pressure of the shroud interior, are operated in proper sequence to fill the bag.

  • Patent number: 4620601
Abstract: A turbodrill is disclosed which is connected to a string of drill pipe as a rotating shaft for driving a drill bit which may be a rotary bit or a high speed solid head diamond bit. The turbine section of the turbodrill has rotor and stator blades which are cresent shaped in cross section and are operated by drilling mud flowing therethrough to rotate the shaft. The shaft is provided with radial bearings which carry radial loads and thrust bearings which carry vertical or longitudinal loads. The thrust bearings, which carry the entire thrust load, consist of a pair of annular bearing plates each of which supports a plurality of friction bearing members, highly resistant to wear by the drilling mud flowing through the drill, consisting of cylindrical studs having flat faces with flat disc-shaped diamond bearing members supported thereon. There are preferably one more of the diamond bearing members on one of the annular bearing plates than on the other.

  • Patent number: 4305586
Abstract: A casino type game of chance consists of a game board formed in two layers with elongated cubicles therebetween for receiving cards that can be mixed by a game operator and passed through to the other side to a player to select the cards for play. The surface of the game board consists of a suitable design with the months of the year arranged thereon for play using the cards. The cards consist of two sets. One set of cards consists of three cards bearing the number one and nine cards bearing the number zero. The other set of cards consists of two ones, two twos, and one each of the digits 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 0. The cards are drawn one at a time, first one from one set and then one from the other set. The combination obtained is played on the board according to the months of the year as follows: 01=January, 02=February, etc. up to 12=December. The player attempts in a series of plays to draw numbers ultimately covering all of the months of the year.

  • Patent number: 4256552
Abstract: A chlorine generator is disclosed for use in chlorinating water in swimming pools, baths, reservoirs, sewage, etc. The generator is of the type consisting of two sealed compartments separated by an ion-permeable membrane and having a cathode in one compartment and an anode in the other. Hydrogen is evolved from the cathode compartment and chlorine from the anode compartment. In this generator, an electrically neutral or bipolar electrode (one not connected in the anode-cathode circuit) is positioned between the anode and the cathode adjacent to the ion-permeable membrane in the anode compartment. The chlorine generator is characterized by a more rapid start up in generating chlorine and in more rapid and more efficient generation of chlorine with chlorine being released at both the anode and the neutral electrode.
