Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically forming and welding wire mesh cages useful in reinforcing standard concrete pipe. Prefabricated wire mesh is fed from a coil through a straightener and shear section onto a mandrel. A predetermined length of the wire mesh is sheared and then rolled in cage form on the mandrel and, once rolled, is welded to retain the mandrel shape. The entire operation is automatically controlled by an integrated electrical control and logic system and is run by a single operator. The welding system employs a plurality of small TIG welders which are operated in sequence to reduce power supply demands and which can weld wire in any condition even rusted wire.
Abstract: A speed socket wrench which substantially reduces the work required to remove nuts or bolts is disclosed. The wrench includes a bevel gear and mating bevel pinion mounted respectively on a gear shaft and pinion shaft. A drive shaft is provided on the outer end of the pinion shaft. A reversing ratchet mechanism is employed to lock the drive shaft. The specific construction and arrangement of components provides a socket wrench which has been found to substantially reduce the work required to remove nuts or bolts, as compared with conventional wrenchs. The present invention provides an improved T-handle for use with a tool having a shaft which rotates about its longitudinal axis.
Abstract: A high-temperature resistant blast pipe is primarily intended for delivering gas, such as oxygen, and, when appropriate, solid material to metallurgical processes, and incorporates a layer of refractory material comprising a refractory mixture of solid particles and an alkali-silicate based binder. The blast pipe is characterized in particular in that the major constituent of the binder is of the type polymerized alkali silicate.
Abstract: A charging system for seam welding two or more workpieces by means of explosion welding, comprising an explosive charge and an inert impulse-transmitting body located between the explosive charge and the workpiece nearest the charge. The invention is characterized in that the surface (11) of the inert body (2) facing the workpiece is so configured in a plane extending at right angles to the longitudinal extension of the ultimate weld seam that the angle .alpha. between the surface (11) and the workpiece (3) varies from the center line (C--C) of the inert body (2) perpendicularly to the surface of the workpiece and outwardly from the center line.
Abstract: An indicator sheet for an autoclave test pack wherein a pair of porous masses (10) are held in close superimposed relationship by means of a clamp (13) with the indicator sheet (12) sandwiched between them. The indicator sheet (12) has printed thereon a pattern of markings (14) formed from one or more substances which are adapted under steam sterilizing conditions to provide an indication of the presence of air and/or excessive moisture such that each is evident and individually identifiable.
Abstract: Apparatus for cleansing the upper interior surfaces of a concrete sewer conduit, the apparatus including the concrete sewer pipe and a plurality of spray nozzles spaced apart and adapted to be introduced into and disposed in and along a length of concrete sewer to enable continuous or intermittent spraying of the upper interior surfaces or, alternatively, to be permanently mounted along the length of the concrete sewer conduit when newly constructed.
Abstract: A glass vessel, in particular an ampoule, having a prestress produced at a predetermined spot of the vessel which permits an automatic opening of the vessel at the predetermined spot following scratching by means of a suitable tool. The prestress, which is produced exclusively by means of an earlier thermal treatment without the application of a tool exhibits a stress profile in which an initially produced annular tensile stress ring, is overlapped at a predetermined spot by a point-shaped compressive stress zone that is produced subsequently.
Abstract: A glass cover or lid for a chest freezer of the kind in which the goods contained therein are intended to be viewed through the glass cover and which chest is constructed so that a substantially stationary cushion of air can be generated immediately beneath the glass cover, preferably a chest which lacks devices for forcibly circulating air in the chest. The glass cover (1) includes a glass panel or two mutually parallel panels, and the side of the glass cover facing inwardly towards the interior of the chest is provided with a layer for reflecting infrared radiation.
Abstract: A method for heating primarily a so-called nozzle (2) through which a hot medium (10) in a liquid phase or in a liquid phase like condition, such as a molten metal, e.g. molten steel, is intended to pass in conjunction with a casting or molding operation for example. The method is particularly characterized in that the nozzle (2) is pre-heated prior to being brought into contact with the medium (10) and/or is heated at least periodically while medium is passing through the nozzle. Heating of the nozzle is effected with the aid of microwaves and the nozzle includes material which exhibits a significant loss factor with regard to microwaves. The nozzle is heated preferably for the purpose of avoiding blockages and the like from occurring in the nozzle as a result of a temperature decrease in the medium passing therethrough. The invention also relates to apparatus for carrying out the method.
Abstract: A packingless gate valve comprises a housing having two opposed resilient sleeve units that compressibly engage end to end in the valve open condition and engage opposite sides of the gate in the valve closed condition. Each sleeve unit is a resilient annular body formed at one end with an axially projecting seal lip near the inner periphery and has a stiffener ring enclosed adjacent the outer periphery at the one end. An integral gasket forming flange is formed on the other end of the sleeve body.
Abstract: An intraocular lens that provides accommodation in direct response to contraction and relaxation of the ciliary body. The lens includes a first component having fixed refractive power and a second component having varying refractive power, the components being relatively movable towards each other as the ciliary body contracts to increase the total refractive power of the lens.
Abstract: A transport and storage container for concentrates of beverages or the like for making a ready-to-drink beverage by means of a drink-making machine is provided in the form of an inner bag package, whereof the two narrow side walls, as well as the top and bottom, are parallel to each other, whereof the narrow side wall containing the concentrate outlet, removal and connection, piece and the opposite narrow side wall form angles of approximately 93.degree. and 87.degree. with the top and with the bottom. The two triangular wall portions of the inner bag gussets located in the bottom and top planes of the package are sealed or welded together, and a viewing window structure is provided in the outer cardboard casing of the package adjacent the end where the concentrate outlet piece is located.

Abstract: A sump crock cover for airtight istallation on the surface of a floor directly over a sump pump opening is disclosed. The cover includes a sump lid base member of generally circular shape having two spaced apart annular sealing rings which assit in preventing the escape of hazardous gases such as radon enriched soil gas. The cover has an integral radially extending ribbed section with a central aperture for the purpose of receiving a flexible grommet which provides a seal around sump discharge piping and electrical wiring. Effective O-ring sealing is obtained by positioning the O-rings radially inwardly and outwardly of the bolts which mount the cover to the floor and by providing for installation of the O-rings in grooves in the sump lid so that the O-rings extend beyond the plane of the sump lid.
Abstract: Filter cartridge for filtering apparatuses for removing impurities from hot and/or highly pressurized flowing gases, with zig-zag formed, folded, gas-penetrated filter material whose part surfaces caused by the folding, between the fold lines, are arranged in relatively close juxtaposition to each other, wherein a preferably thin-walled plate 15 is arranged in the space between two respectively adjacent part surface 12, 13 of the filter material 11, with said plate having one straight-formed edge 16 lying in the inside of the fold 14 and one opposite lying zig-zag formed edge 17, and the bend or crest lines 18 between the two edges 16, 17 rise steadily towards the medial plane 19 of the plate 15.
