  • Patent number: 8157767
Abstract: A cerebral cooling device that uses a pressurized source to deliver a fluid that evaporates in the nasal cavity to provide cooling and has a balloon on the distal end that inflates from some of the pressure from the pressurized source. The device includes a nasal catheter having delivery ports located in the distal region and a balloon on the distal end. The proximal end of the catheter is in fluid communication with a pressurized source of a low boiling point fluid. A manifold located between the pressurized source and the catheter distributes the fluid and pressure from the pressurized source to a first lumen of the catheter to inflate the balloon and to a second lumen of the catheter through the delivery ports to cool the nasal cavity. A check valve in the manifold ensures that the fluid and pressure are first delivered to the balloon.

  • Patent number: 8144120
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing a user with feedback as to the status of the command they have initiated by depressing a button, series of buttons or sequence of buttons on a human interface device (“HID”) for a time period beyond a fraction of a second to activate a function. In one embodiment, feedback provided for a press and hold (“P+H”) operation informs the user that their button press action has been detected by a multi-function device (“MFD”) and a visual and/or audible indication is provided, informing him or her to continue pressing the button or buttons on the HID to activate one or more functions. A graphical display with a periodically updated progress bar displays how much longer the user should continue pressing the button or buttons to successfully transmit a command to the MFD with an animation showing which command will be activated.

  • Patent number: 8134918
Abstract: The Fiber Channel standard was created by the American National Standard for Information Systems (ANSI) X3T11 task group to define a serial I/O channel for interconnecting a number of heterogeneous peripheral devices to computer systems as well as interconnecting the computer systems themselves through optical fiber and copper media at gigabit speeds (i.e., one billion bits per second). Multiple protocols such as SCSI (Small Computer Serial Interface), IP (Internet Protocol), HIPPI, ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) among others can concurrently utilize the same media when mapped over Fiber Channel. A Fiber Channel Fabric is an entity which transmits Fiber Channel frames between connected Node Ports. The Fiber Channel fabric routes the frames based on the destination address as well as other information embedded in the Fiber Channel frame header. Node Ports are attached to the Fiber Channel Fabric through links.

  • Patent number: 8129910
Abstract: A system and method of magnetically insulating the cathode of a cold-cathode electron gun is achieved. A strong magnetic field is applied in the vicinity of the cold cathode to deflect and constrain the flow of electrons emitted from structures within the electron gun. The magnetic field largely prevents re-reflected primary and secondary electrons from reaching the cathode, thereby improving the operation and increasing the life of the cold-cathode electron gun. In addition, the insulating magnetic field improves electron beam focusing and enables a reduction in the magnitude of static electric focusing fields employed in the vicinity of the cold cathode, further reducing the electron gun's susceptibility to destructive arcing.

  • Patent number: 8107569
Abstract: A system is provided that enhances the throughput and reliability of wireless communications by providing multi-beam user terminals that exhibit directional discrimination. Multiple wireless communication channels are matched with multiple beams created from an array antenna by a beam-forming processor. The multiple wireless communication channels are bonded into a single virtual channel, thereby increasing data bandwidth while reducing interference and multi-path effects that can degrade communications. The beam-forming function may be performed in a dedicated beam-forming processor or may reside within a general-purpose microprocessor located in the user terminal.

  • Patent number: 8098612
Abstract: A satellite broadcasting system is achieved in which remote beam forming processors located among distributed ground stations are used to control downlink beam footprints and pointing directions. Digital beam forming techniques allow a single satellite downlink broadcast antenna array to generate multiple simultaneous downlinks that can be pointed independently and that may contain distinct information content. By allocating some of the uplink back-channel elements as null channels, continuous calibration of the uplink channel can be performed, improving the performance of the downlink broadcast array and the quality of the broadcast for users. By wavefront multiplexing, all of the uplink channel elements propagate through the all of the available propagation channels simultaneously, eliminating the need for complex and costly individual array-element calibration equipment using on-board or ground-based references.

  • Patent number: 8089646
Abstract: A user processes high resolution digital images at a user computer by converting the high resolution images into low and thumbnail resolution formats and by converting the high resolution images into a JPEG format. The user also enters image related data into the user computer and creates a user database. The processed image data and the image related data are stored in the same database, i.e., a user database, and are transmitted to the host site. At the host site, the processed image data and the image related data are stored in the same database, i.e., a host database. Alternatively, users store a plurality of images in high resolution, low resolution and thumbnail formats at the user computer and upload to the host site those images—in thumbnail and low resolution format—that the user selects. Customers view the selected images at the host site and order desired images.
