  • Patent number: 6587687
Abstract: The teaching of this invention pertains particularly to satellite communications systems using GSO or NGSO satellites. This invention employs data derived from signals of various types to derive a mathematical model of propagation related attenuation-inducing events so as to plan system resource allocation to minimize an amount of power required to close communication links between user terminals and the satellites. Disclosed are methods for modelling gateway to satellite links, as well as methods for modeling the user terminal to satellite links. This invention overcomes the problems inherent in the prior art by providing a direct measurement of severe path attenuation potential.

  • Patent number: 6423248
Abstract: Small particle manganese activated alkaline earth aluminate phosphors are produced by thermal decomposition of gels or powders comprising alkaline earth, manganese salts and an organic precursor such as aluminum isopropoxide at a temperature below the normal solid state reaction temperature. The phosphor of the present invention has the empirical formula: (AE1-xMnx)O·6(Al2O3) wherein AE is selected from Ba, Sr, Ca and Mg and 0.01≦×≦0.1, having a band emission in the green region, peaking at 516 nm when excited by 147 and 173 nm radiation from Xenon gas mixture. The phosphor obtained by the present method, having uniform particle size distribution (0.05 to 5 microns), is appropriate for thin phosphor screens required for a variety of flat panel display and lamp applications.

  • Patent number: 6355330
Abstract: One or more particulate active agents are fused to the surface of a substrate web by mixing the particulate agents with a particulate binder having a particle size not exceeding an average diameter of approximately 40 microns and coating the composite mixture onto the surface of the substrate. Thereafter; the coated substrate is heated to a temperature equal to or greater than the Vicat softening temperature of the binder and compressed within the nip of a pair of pressure rolls to achieve fusion. If desired, a top layer may be placed upon the coated composite prior to the compression step. Also disclosed are various products manufactured by the process.

  • Patent number: 6202877
Abstract: A lip-openable lid is provided for use in connection with a container or container cap having a valve seat and an opening for egress of container contents. A lip-openable container is also provided that employs the lip-openable lid. The lid is comprised of a gasket with a lip-engageable annular wall, a central portion radially inward of the wall, and a peripheral flange that is engageable with the valve seat. The lid includes a rigid support that has liquid flow openings, supports the central portion of the gasket and positions the gasket against the valve seat. The lid can also include means for securing the gasket to the support. The central portion of the gasket is comprised of a flexible elastomer and is capable of flexing and stretching to displace the flange from the valve seat when downward pressure is applied against the gasket. When downward pressure is applied, the central portion of the gasket contacts the rigid support and flexes and stretches downward from and/or over the rigid support.

  • Patent number: 6158809
Abstract: A seat mechanism for mounting in a shower or bathtub has a telescoping lift column that raises and lowers the seat. The column has mutually interacting elements that have two end elements and at least one middle element between them. The at least one middle element and at least a first of the end elements have external threads. The at least one middle element and a second of the end elements have internal threads. A drive is arranged to rotate one of the two end elements.

  • Patent number: 6064791
Abstract: A fiber optic cable restoration apparatus preferably includes two weather-tight enclosures, connector panel with a plurality of connector interfaces for optically coupling two optical fibers received therein. Each connector interface includes a bare fiber adapters for receiving a bare optical fiber therein. The connector interfaces of each connector panel are connected across a connectorized MIC cable to form a communication bridge therebetween. Two cut ends of a cable can be repaired by inserting the individual fibers of one cut cable end into respective bare fiber connectors of one enclosure and inserting the individual fibers of the other cut cable end into the respective bare fiber adapters of the other enclosure. The apparatus is easier and faster to use and more cost efficient than present methods of repairing cables and eliminates the need for circuit rerouting operations altogether.
