  • Patent number: 6858953
Abstract: A power control interface between an unstable power source such as a wind farm and a power transmission line employs an electrical energy storage, control system, and electronic compensation module which act together like an “electronic shock absorber” for storing excess power during periods of increased power generation and releasing stored energy during periods of decreased power generation due to wind fluctuations. The control system is provided with a “look ahead” capability for predicting power output (wind speed conditions) and maintaining energy storage or release over a “narrow-band” range despite short duration fluctuations. The control system uses data derived from monitoring the wind farm power output and the power transmission line, and employs system-modeling algorithms to predict narrow-band wind speed conditions.

  • Patent number: 6855295
Abstract: A UV air cleaning and disinfecting system has an enclosed chassis with an inlet/outlet surface panel on one planar side thereof, and the chassis is mounted in the space behind a drop ceiling with its surface panel coplanar with the ceiling surface and facing into the room space. The surface panel has a pair of inlet vent arrays on opposite longitudinal sides of the surface panel from each other, and a pair of outlet vent arrays on opposite latitudinal sides of the surface panel from each other. Arranged in the chassis are an air blower unit and an array of UV lamps. The positioning of the inlet and outlet vent arrays establish four mutually circulating air streams in a four-leaf-clover pattern in the room space, which obtains a high-efficiency throughput of air handled by the system. The UV lamp array is arranged longitudinally across the chassis between the inlet ventsat a lower elevational position of the chassis.

  • Patent number: 6786029
Abstract: A pet nail cover has a sack portion that is shaped and dimensioned so as to cover at least the main toe and nail of the animal and extends into a groove between the toe's small flesh pad and a large flesh pad on the bottom of the animal's foot, thereby leaving the large flesh pad exposed, allowing for the animal's traction, mobility and comfort. The pet nail cover eliminates scratches on wooden floor surfaces made by a pet's nails, scratching or scarring on the eyes and ears of the animal, and allows the animal to run with traction and mobility on indoor floor surfaces without slipping. It is attached to the animal with a fastener portion secured around the ankle portion of the animal's leg. It may also have ventilation holes in the nail cover surface for comfort.

  • Patent number: 6712574
Abstract: A quick insertion fastener has an internally threaded first member (“nut”) adapted to be quickly attached and tightened on an externally threaded second member (“bolt”). The nut is formed with a casing with an internal frusto-conical front surface, a plurality of threaded shell segments contained in the casing having external frusto-conical front surfaces which abut the front surface of the casing, a spring member positioned at a rear part of the casing which elastically holds the rear ends of the shell assembly together, and an end retainer provided at the rear part of the casing having a taper for engaging the rear ends of the shell assembly and displacing them radially apart when the shell assembly is displaced axially toward the end retainer by insertion of the bolt. This allows the bolt threads to move without interference past the internal threads of the shell segments.

  • Patent number: 6654225
Abstract: A static eliminator comprises one pair of discharge electrodes. One electrode issues ions of a polarity while the other electrode issues ions of opposite polarity. In addition to the foregoing, polarity of ions issued from each of said discharge electrodes is switched over to opposite polarity. The switching over of polarities is synchronized with each other so that ions issued from each discharge electrodes are of opposite polarities. In another embodiment, static eliminator comprises a rotary ionizer or rotary ion issuing discharge electrodes. In still another embodiment, static eliminator comprises more than three arrayed discharge electrodes, each of discharge electrodes issues ions of opposite polarity to that issued from adjacent discharge electrodes.

  • Patent number: 6564249
Abstract: A real-time electronic messaging system, and related method, employs a remote client device with a handwriting client component that sets up a graphical data capture area in the device visual interface and employs a graphical input device for allowing a sender to input a handwritten or handdrawn message. The handwriting client component captures the handwritten or handdrawn input, converts it to an electronic message, and sends it online to a recipient. The remote client device is connected online via a network to a real-time messaging server which sends the message to the remote client device for the recipient. In preferred versions, the remote client device can be a wireless PDA, always-on pager or messaging device, or mobile phone with SMS or EMS service.

  • Patent number: 6550549
Abstract: A mechanism for breaking off and retaining a core sample of a drill drilled into a ground substrate has an outer drill tube and an inner core break-off tube sleeved inside the drill tube. The break-off tube breaks off and retains the core sample by a varying geometric relationship of inner and outer diameters with the drill tube. The inside diameter (ID) of the drill tube is offset by a given amount with respect to its outer diameter (OD). Similarly, the outside diameter (OD) of the break-off tube is offset by the same amount with respect to its inner diameter (ID). When the break-off tube and drill tube are in one rotational alignment, the two offsets cancel each other such that the drill can operate the two tubes together in alignment with the drill axis. When the tubes are rotated 180 degrees to another positional alignment, the two offsets add together causing the core sample in the break-off tube to be displaced from the drill axis and applying shear forces to break off the core sample.
