Patent number: 6075682Abstract: A nonwoven media wiping material is provided by a thermal point bonding process which comprises the steps of combining a carded web of predominantly textile-length thermoplastic fibers having a higher melting temperature and a polymeric sheet having a lower melting temperature, and applying heat and pressure to the combination of film and fiber layers through thermal calendering. The polymeric sheet melts and becomes bonded to the carded fibers in discrete points to provide a soft and lofty outer media contacting finish.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1998Date of Patent: June 13, 2000Assignee: BBA Nonwovens Simpsonville, Inc.Inventor: Jon A. Patent number: 6055673Abstract: A pants having frayable leg bottoms is provided by provision of at least one circumferential thread stitching proximate each leg bottom. The circumferential thread stitching provides a defined boundary for fraying and cutting the leg bottom to a selected length. The pant legs are cut below the stitching line to define the fabric area for fraying in the pant legs. Fraying in the legs is then provided by separation of yarns at cut bottoms in normal wear and laundering of the pants. In a preferred embodiment, the pant legs include multiple circumferential double needle top stitching rows of thread which are spaced apart from the leg bottoms.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1998Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: Generation X International Corp.Inventor: James Patrick McCormick

Patent number: 6053230Abstract: The present invention provides a hot air welding apparatus that provides accurate and repeatable control of the drive wheel speed. To afford very precise control of the speed and relative rotation of the drive wheels at all times during the welding process, the present invention is provided with a computer control system and two high torque stepper motors, one for each drive wheel. The computer control system allows the speed and position of the drive wheels to be regulated with a very high accuracy. The computer control system allows the drive wheel settings to be adjusted while the seam is being welded and further includes an automatic ramp capability, a repeat mode, and a test strip mode. Further, the computer control system is capable of controlling the temperature of the air used in the welding process.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1997Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Pelland Automation, Inc.Inventor: Ray Pelland

Patent number: 6017415Abstract: A method wherein waste cellulosic material is used as an alternative fiber source during chemical pulping to replace a fraction of the wood chips. The waste cellulosic material is fed to the digester along with wood chips. The waste cellulosic material need not be repulped or slurried prior to digestion. The wood chips may be any species of hardwood or softwood. Normal chemical pulping charges, temperatures and cooking times applied in the case of 100% wood chip pulping may be used for the co-pulping of waste cellulosic material and wood chips. Thereafter, the pulp is processed as usual for chemical pulping, including the steps of blowing the digester, washing and thickening the brown stock, and bleaching the brown stock under the normal conditions used for the component co-pulped with the waste cellulosic material. Further screening or cleaning steps may be required to remove debris from waste cellulosic material.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1997Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Richard B. Patent number: 5991166Abstract: A switching power supply using SEPIC topology with an input and output circuit (12, 14). The input circuit (12) contains two inductance coils (D1.1) and (D1.2). To improve power supply and control properties, the second inductance coil (D1.2) is magnetically coupled to the first inductance coil (D1.1), in such a way that a value (IS), proportional to current (IS), measured in the second inductance coil (D1.2), can be supplied to a current regulator (KI) as an actual value. A computer unit (RG') contains an input (A) for a voltage difference (UF) from output voltage (UA) and reference voltage (USOLL), an input (B) for a sinusoidal input voltage (UE), and an additional input (C) for the peak value (UES) or a phased-shifted voltage (k.times.UES) of the input voltage as a direct voltage reading, whereby a signalD=A.times.B/C=UF.times.UE/k.times.UESis produced at output (52').Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Inventor: Reinhard Kalfhaus

Patent number: 5960374Abstract: A system for monitoring of a product quality variable of a moving web produced by associated equipment defines cross-direction (CD) data increments across a width of the web and machine direction (MD) data increments over a running length of the web, and takes CD/MD measurements of the selected variable in order to fill the corresponding CD/MD measurement data boxes and generate a time-dependent two-dimensional array mapping representing the moving web. In the preferred system, the CD data increments are divided across the width of the web, and the MD data increments are time-divided intervals of the time period of an element of the production equipment, so as to produce a time-synchronous array mapping which shows the impact of the periodicity of the machine element on the product quality variable.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Pierre P.
