Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for ranking a result set. The method according to one embodiment comprises selecting an item from the result set, selecting a user profile from one or more user profiles and selecting one or more items of personalized information from the selected user profile. A rank is calculated for the item on the basis of the selected one or more items of personalized information and the selected item in the result set is ranked in accordance with the calculated rank.

Abstract: The present invention provides systems, methods and computer program products for extracting semantic information from text data having metadata associated therewith. A method according to an embodiment of the present invention includes selecting an ordered set of scale values for a plurality of scales and, for each of the scale values, determining one or more subset of metadata information related to the scale value. For each of the scales and associated subsets, a statistic on occurrences of content associated with the metadata in each subset is determined and the statistics are aggregated for each scale and associated subsets to determine a semantic level for the content. The scales and associated subsets having content with a semantic level above a threshold may be determined to extract semantic information across multiple time frames with the ordered set of scale values for the plurality of scales.

Abstract: A technique for processing data in a network is disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the technique may be realized as a method for processing data in a network having a plurality of network stations. The method comprises receiving a first representation of data at a first of the plurality of network stations, processing the first representation so as to generate a second representation of the data, and transmitting the second representation from the first network station to a second of the plurality of network stations for storage therein, wherein the second representation is stored at an address within the second network station. The method also comprises receiving the address at the first network station, and transmitting the address from the first network station to a third of the plurality of network stations for storage therein.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems, methods, and user interfaces for browsing a collection of content items saved by a user or by one or more buddies associated with a given user. The method of the present invention comprises saving one or more content items and one or more associated keywords as specified by a user. An interface is generated that displays the one or more saved content items and the one or more associated keywords, as well as the one or more buddies associated with a given user. A user indication of the selection of a given keyword or the selection of a given buddy by the user is received. The one or more displayed content items are filtered according to the selected keyword, buddy, or combination of selected keyword and buddy.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for generating substitute titles for a content item in response to a user submitted title for the content item. A method receives a user generated title and generates a plurality of candidate substitute titles. A first quality score is calculated for the user generated title and a plurality of second quality scores are generated for the plurality of candidate substitute titles. The user generated title for the content item is replaced with at least one of the plurality of candidate substitute titles on the basis of the quality scores.

One embodiment of a method for generating such search results includes receiving one or more search queries, selecting one of the one or more search queries, determining one or more categories of web documents responsive to the selected search query and crawling a web graph of linked web documents to identify one or more web documents tagged as within the one or more categories responsive to the selected search query. A reference framework is provided by creating context according to previous activity, bias, or background information of a given reviewer. Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for determining a tag match ratio. The method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises selecting a content item, identifying one or more tags that are associated with the content item and determining a weight for each of the one or more tags associated with the content item. The method further comprises extracting one or more keywords from the content item. A tag match ratio for the one or more tags associated with the content item is then calculated and stored.

Abstract: Personal portal pages for individual users are integrated with web content syndication. For example, when a search query is received from the user, a list of hits is generated. For each hit, it is determined whether there is an associated syndication feed, such as an RSS feed. The list of hits is displayed for the user, and a syndication option is included for each hit that has an associated syndication feed. The user can select the syndication option and thereby subscribe their personal portal page to that syndication feed. In some embodiments, the user may also be able to select syndication feeds for subscription via an alternative interface.

Abstract: A search-enabled remote control device to facilitate viewers' ability to search through programming and/or content options and view results. In one embodiment, a viewer is able to use a traditional remote control interface to navigate through menus or selections and to display search results on screen. Abstract: Methods and systems for associating an unbidded term with a bidded term and for pricing search terms. The method for associating an unbidded term with a bidded term comprises selecting a first set of search engine results for the unbidded term, selecting a second set of search engine results for the bidded second term, comparing the first and second sets, and associating the unbidded term with at least one bidded term based on the results of comparing. The method for assigning monetary values to search terms comprises receiving bids for a first term, deriving a similarity function between the first and second term and pricing the second term based upon the derived similarity function and the bid on the first term.
