  • Patent number: 4223650
Abstract: An exhaust gas recycling system for reducing nitrogen oxides discharged into the atmosphere by internal combustion engines, comprises an exhaust manifold having a baffle therein and a bypass pipe leading from the exhaust manifold to the air intake of the carburetor for returning a portion of the exhaust gases to the inlet of the carburetor in direct dependence upon the vacuum in the inlet to the carburetor, thus automatically recycling a substantial portion of the exhaust gases during those periods of operation when such recycling is desired, i.e., during acceleration and normal operation, when the vacuum at the carburetor inlet is high, and recycling only a minimal quantity of exhaust gases during those periods of operation when such recycling is not desired, i.e., during cranking, idling, deceleration and high load operation, when vacuum in the carburetor air intake is low.

  • Patent number: 4170274
Abstract: A device for regulating the traveling speed of a motor vehicle, compares a signal proportional to the actual speed of the vehicle with a signal proportional to the set or desired speed, and superposes on one or both of the signals a periodic signal having at least one periodically recurring section of non-linear characteristic, to obtain a control signal whose amplitude is modulated as a function of the magnitude of deviation between the actual speed signal and the set speed signal, and the control signal is transmitted to a control stage influencing the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4169470
Abstract: An elongated relatively thin, elastic, flexible and resilient nail which, before emplacement in and along the medullary canal of a fractured bone, has a generally curved or arcuate form so that when flexed and stressed by insertion into and along the canal, its pointed proximal end may be facilely directed into the canal of the superjacent fragment, and finally into the trochanter. By turning the nail during emplacement the proximal end may be employed to rotate and adjust the bone fragments into correct or normal relation for healing. A tool or set is detachable connectable with the distal end of the nail, to facilitate emplacement and removal thereof.

  • Patent number: 4161994
Abstract: A speed regulating device for motor vehicles, wherein a setting element is arranged to affect the fuel/air mixture supplied to the engine of the vehicle in response to a control signal, and including an electrical regulator and a variable resistor associated with the setting element and the electrical regulator for signalling to the electrical regulator the actual position of the setting element, the feedback means including a lost motion connection whereby a predetermined movement of the setting element is required before an indication of change or reversal of movement of the setting element is communicated to the electrical regulator, thereby eliminating hunting of the speed regulating device caused by looseness or play in mechanical linkage between the setting drive and throttle valve.

  • Patent number: 4161137
Abstract: A rocker wheel jack is arranged on a compact frame so that the driving mechanism is placed below the rocker wheel. The mechanism is adjustable so as to vary the spacing between it and a drive wheel. The rocker wheel is adjustably spaced from the drive wheel. A pitman connects the drive wheel and the rocker wheel. The pitman connections to the wheels are further adjustable radially to the wheels. Thus a jack is provided with a possibility of multiplicity of adjustments and a minimum of vertical space and of weight for the jack. The complete unit is readily movable. The driving mechanism is readily accessible for repair or replacement. An oil level sensor is provided in the well with connections transmitting its output to the R.P.M. of the jack.

  • Patent number: 4157126
Abstract: A system for regulating the traveling speed of a motor vehicle includes a comparator producing an output signal corresponding to the difference between a sensed speed signal and a reference speed signal, a control device responsive to the output signal from the comparator for controlling the proportion of fuel-air mixture supplied to an engine in the motor vehicle, and a selective delay circuit coupled between the comparator and the control device for delaying the supply of the output signal from the comparator to the control device when the amplitude of the output signal is above a predetermined level and for supplying output signals having an amplitude below the predetermined level directly to the control device such that the system will respond quickly to variations in sensed speed occurring from normal load conditions while providing a smooth transition when the desired speed is changed.

  • Patent number: 4149514
Abstract: A barbecue burner of the type of an upright container. The bottom and virtually all of the side walls of the container are imperforate, except for a narrow, horizontally elongated slot near the top of one of the side walls renders the burner particularly suitable for fast burning fuel such as paper. The barbecue is particularly suitable for outdoor activities as it can be folded and utilizes fuel of the type of old newspapers or the like, thus avoiding the need of relatively bulky and unclean conventional barbecue fuel.
