Patent number: 7939781Abstract: In many cases, the coating material of coated sheet metal has a significantly lower boiling point than the sheet metal material. Thus, an explosive vaporization of coating material can occur when sheet metal of this type is joined by welding, negatively affecting the quality of the connection. To improve the connection quality, narrow gaps are created by means of spacers, allowing the vaporized coating material to escape through said gaps. The spacers are created e.g. by the laser radiation of the sheet metal. The aim of the invention is to reduce the variations in distance between the sheet metal sheets by the appropriate shaping of the spacers. This is achieved by a method, in which the laser beam executes a movement comprising transverse and longitudinal components through and/or around the center of its processing surface. This creates a topographical modification with a spherical form, i.e. with an apex radius that is greater than the height of said topographical modification.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2005Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Wolfgang Becker, Jens Bühler, Klaus Goth, Mike Palmer, Claus-Dieter Reiniger, Daniel Zauner

Patent number: 7939779Abstract: With many coated sheets, in particular zinc-coated sheets as used in the automobile industry, the coating material has a much lower boiling point than the material of the sheet. On welding said sheets together the above leads to explosive evaporation of coating material which seriously affects the quality of the connection. In order to improve the quality of the connection it has already been disclosed that narrow gaps between the sheets can be produced by means of spacers, through which the coating material can escape. The spacers can be produced for example, by means of laser bombardment of the sheets. A disadvantage is the relatively long time necessary for machining, which causes large costs in particular for serial production. The aim of the invention is to reduce the time necessary for machining the sheets whilst at least maintaining, preferably improving the quality of the machining.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2003Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Daniel Zauner, Claus-Dieter Reiniger, Wolfgang Becker, Klaus Goth, Mike Paelmer

Patent number: 7914943Abstract: A solid polymer fuel cell comprising a membrane electrode assembly that is in adhesive contact with a first flow field plate around the circumferential edge of the membrane electrode assembly and in non-adhesive contact with a second flow field plate, and an elastomeric manifold seal member that circumscribes at least one manifold opening of the first flow field plate and the second flow field plate. In this configuration, the adhesive substantially seals a first reactant gas while the manifold seal member substantially seals a second reactant gas, thereby improving sealing reliability and simplifying the seal design without overly compressing and damaging the circumferential edge of the membrane electrode assembly.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2005Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignees: Daimler AG, Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Boguslaw Wozniczka, Jake de Vaal, Alfred Wong

Patent number: 7871729Abstract: A system and method for reducing concentrations of reactants in gases flowing through an exhaust system are disclosed. Briefly described, one embodiment comprises creating a turbulent flow of gases along a periphery region of an exhaust pipe, the turbulent flow created by the gases transported over a wire mesh residing in the periphery region; and mixing the gases in the periphery region with a reactant gas being transported in a flow-through region, the mixing caused by the turbulent flow of gases, such that concentration of the reactant gas is reduced as the reactant gas is transported through the exhaust system.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2005Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignees: Daimler AG, Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Jacob W. Patent number: 7846474Abstract: This procedure consists in the first stage, of the administration of enough quantity of bisphosphonate preparation during the necessary period of time to acquire a degree of volumetric mineral density of the cortical tissue of application, within the normal range (average.+?.1 DS). Then the administration of the bisphosphonate preparation is interrupted in order to enable the development of the sectional momentum of inertia. The length of the second stage can be determined by means of a tomography. That is to say, that the periods of administration or non-administration of the mineralizing agent are defined or controlled by precise osteologic variables and therefore are not fixed. If during the second stage the cortical mineral density drops by 6-10% of the maximum value previously obtained, administration of bisphosphonate preparation should be resumed until the corresponding maximum adjusted value is reached again.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2008Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: Gador S.A.Inventors: Emilio J.A. Patent number: 7811719Abstract: Proposed is a PEM fuel cell that comprises a separator plate assembly with a charging chamber, which is partitioned off by a partition wall and via charging spots has a fluid connection to an adjoining cathode chamber. The partition wall is designed so that the depths of the charging channels in the charging chamber and the depths of the distribution channels in the adjoining cathode chambers change in such a way that the quantity of oxidant that is charged at a charging spot from the charging chamber into the cathode chamber can be fixed in advance. As a result, the charging of oxidant, which has not been humidified or only slightly, into the cathode chamber can be improved with regard to the curve of the relative humidity along the cathode. Also proposed is a method for manufacturing a separator plate assembly suitable for a PEM fuel cell.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2006Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Felix Blank, Thomas Kunick
